Chapter 20

A/N: Steve Harrington chapter because why not :)
As I walked out of school that day, I felt a level of confusion I hadn't felt since Josies Patterson's 5th birthday party when the concept of Apple bobbing was explained to me.
Why had Billy changed his whole demeanor in less than 48 hours of our getaway? Where did we stand, and why is Steve Harrington approaching me?
As I stood in the empty parking lot, ready to ditch the last two periods of the day, Steve jogged out the schools still in his gym attire.
"Steve-" I ran my hand throws my hair in frustration.
"You dropped your paper." he handed me the sheet that had my math homework copied down on it.
"Thanks." I shoved it in my bag before throwing it in the backseat of my car. "Anything else," I asked, opening the driver's side door and leaning in.
"Just that I am truly sorry for what I did, Kai. I wish you would give me one more chance to prove how sorry I am." I looked down and squeezed my eyes shut. Would I regret this?
"Okay, whatever," I said, looking back up at him. Steve smiled widely. "Thank you, thank you, I won't disappoint you again; you can always count on me, kai." I raised my brows and nodded. "Okay, well, can you get notes from the next two classes? I think I'm going to ditch." Steve frowned but quickly nodded.
"Of course, consider it done." With that, I began to start getting into my car. "Wait, I know I'm probably pushing my luck here, and it's none of my business, but are you dating Hargrove?" I nearly froze as the words fell from Steves's lips.
"Why do-?"
"It's just because he looked as if he could kill me when I just not ran out after you, not to mention his eyes never seem to leave you." I bit my lip.
I looked up at Steve now from inside my car.
"Look, I don't mean to pry, and you can do whatever you want it just that; I know you probably hate me, but we used to be excellent friends, and as your friend, I feel like it's my responsibility to let you know that Hargrove is the kind of guy that only seeks one thing from girls, that being sex and once he gets what he wants he tosses them, I seen it happen, so did you, in fact, the whole town probably knows of his reputation. If you're not dating him good, but if you are, be careful; I don't want you to fall for his lies and end up giving up something special to you, only for you to be tossed to the side like everyone else.
"Your right; it is none of your business." I shut my car door and started up my car. A huge part of me wanted to believe everything Steve said was a lie, but how could I deny any of it when I have seen it happen firsthand?
As I drove down Hawkins, my head filled with so many thoughts I felt like I would explode. I'd been friends with Billy for months, and he hadn't been like this once, but maybe Steve was right; when you are friends with someone for so long, sometimes you owe it to yourself to try and see if there is something more to it. I groaned in frustration as I pulled into my driveway.
Is that how billy felt? Did he ask me out only to see if there could be something more, and then he realized there was nothing there, and now he is bored?

In the afternoon, my parents went out to dinner with one of their friends, leaving me with the freedom to eat whatever I wanted. I stared at the ice cream sandwich in my fridge before deciding I could handle the midnight stomach ache when it came.
Just as I got comfy on the couch with my ice cream and whatever was playing on the tv, the doorbell rang. It couldn't be Nancy; she was studying tonight.
