Chapter 34
UneditedThe smell of sun tan lotion and chlorine-filled my nose as I walked through the gates of Hawkins Community Pool. I instantly spotted the brunette-haired girl sitting on the lifeguard post in her red uniform bathing suit; she looked exhausted, and the whistles hung from her lips as she tried to get the three boys to stop from cannonballing into the pool. "Kai, nice to see you here." I approached Mrs. Wheeler and her friends by the pool; she looked stunning, "Hey, Mrs. Wheeler, love the swimsuit. Really brings out your eyes." She smiled, waving her hand, "You too sweet; this thing is so old." I saw how her friends eyed her; they all looked perfect to be hanging out by the pool; in fact, each woman had a full face of makeup. Did they not realize it's 90 degrees out, and the makeup will melt off their face when they leave the shade?
"Well, you all look perfect." My compliment encouraged the ladies to sit upright and more confidently; more people should tell these women they are beautiful. Everyone deserves to hear that. "I thought you were with Nancy today." Mrs Wheeler said as I began to walk away, "I was until she abandoned me, saying she had new scoop on her rat story."Mrs. Wheeler frowned. "Rat story?" I shrugged, deciding not to tell Mrs Wheeler anymore, "Something for the paper she is working on." Her mouth fell into a silent O. I bid my goodbyes and walked to the lifeguard post.
"Hey, Heather, how is it going?" She took off her shades and began to climb down. "Horrible, I'm just glad this shit shift is over." She said. I laughed and sat in the pool chair. "Hey, are you going to Trevor's party tonight?" She asked, putting on a pair of shorts over her suit. "No, I heard about it, but isn't that almost on the other side of town?" Heather nodded and blew her whistle as another group of kids ran past her. "Walk!" she yelled after them, but they paid her no mind. "Yeah, but it's supposed to be epic; you and Billy should come." "I will think about it." Taylor smiled before putting her shades back on, "Well, my times up; catch ya later, Kai."
She turned on her heels, and almost as if right on cue, the pretty blonde lifeguard came out through the back door. I felt shivers down my body just from the sight of his bare chest. His curls looked so defined, and how the sun bounced off his body was an absolute crime. He looked like everything that was sinful and sexy.
I stood up, watching how the entire pool atmosphere changed; I didn't miss how the girls walked past him, greeting him, giggling and pushing one another, the way the other guys straightened up and puffed their chests out. Billy put his whistle in his mouth and blew so loud that I winced, "Hey, no running on my watch! I gotta warn you again and your banned for life, you wanna be banned for life?" I looked over at the trembling boy, who shook his head quickly. "Didn't think so."
He blew his whistle, and everyone returned to their activities. He walked past the moms, and I couldn't help but notice how Mrs wheeler and her friends seemed to have struck a pose. "Afternoon Ladies," Billy smirked. "Afternoon, Billy." He stopped briefly in front of Mrs Wheeler and began to open his mouth to speak when his eye caught sight of me. He instantly turned around and walked away from them.
"Well, this is a pleasant surprise." In two long strides, he had reached me, and then I was in his arms, and his mouth was on mine, his arm around my waist, and his other hand on the base of my neck. The idea of people looking at us never bothered Billy, and while we were no longer in high school and the town knew about our relationship, it was still weird for me not to feel judged when being with him. I could practically hear what they were thinking, how could I be with a guy like Billy.
He pulled away, and his eyes met mine, "If you're thinking what I think you are thinking, I will strip you down right here and make love to you; I will have you screaming my name so that everyone knows who you belong to, and I will tell you exactly how much I worship your mind and body, and we will keep doing that until you leave behind whatever insecurities you have, because I am yours, and you are mine." My breath came out in shudders at his declaration, and I held his arm for support. "I'm yours." I blinked.
"You are." that's the reminder I will ever need. Once he let me go, my world seemed to return to focus. "Want to do dinner tonight?" I asked as he began to climb the steps up to the lifeguard post. Billy took off his sunglasses and looked down at me. "I thought you were having a girl's day with Wheeler," I told Billy about Nancy leaving me in the middle of Starcourt Mall for her story and also how Robin, Steve, and Dustin were talking about some Russian code; of course, whispering the last part. "Well, that's strange, and I'm done for dinner as long as you are okay with a late one. After closing today, I must clean the pool, so I have to stay longer." I frowned. "Why are you cleaning the pool?" Billy shrugged. "Extra cash."
I crossed my arms over my chest. "If this is about the California expanses, I already told you, Billy, I can handle my own." Billy smiled and caressed my cheek. "I know, love, but don't worry about all that right now." I began to talk again, but he cut me off. "How about Chinese?" I narrowed my eyes but decided the middle of the community pool wasn't the best place to discuss this and allowed the topic to change. "I want Indian." "Deal, I love Indian. I will pick it up and meet you at your place around 9:30; how does that sound?" I nodded, and Billy leaned down, and I climbed up a few of the steps so I could kiss him. He pulled me closer and deepened the kiss, and what was supposed to be a small goodbye kiss suddenly felt like something more significant. When I pulled away, I felt unease in my stomach, as if this would be the last time I kissed him.
"What is it?" Billy asked as I climbed down, "Nothing. I just have this eerie feeling that something - I don't know, it's Nothing." Billy seemed like he wanted to say something else but decided against it. "I will see you later, okay." I nodded and began to leave the pool; when I reached the gate, I looked back at the beautiful blond-haired, blue-eyed boy. And my heart felt heavy with worry, a feeling I couldn't place. It was almost as if this was the last time I would see him again or something terrible was about to happen. I felt dizzy and knew this was probably some fluke I needed to sleep off. Billy would leave work, get take out, and come home to me; he would be perfectly fine and safe.
A/N: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. It's a short filler chapter, but the next few chapters will pick up; we are in the final stretch, you guys!
