CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
THE glorious empire defeated the conquerors because of its huge army and powerful weapons. The great mind behind the attack was decapitated in front of his people. And the reigning emperor get to live another fifteen years after the war. Can you imagine how powerful that empire was? And how its people are abundant of everything that they need. Slaves got freedom, beggars got lands to farm, children have great education, and elderlies are taken care of. Who doesn't want to live in that kind of world? But what's bugging me is that how come the powerful and glorious empire got defeated after decades of reigning?
"You said you want a cuddle time everyday." Napatingin ako sa pumasok sa kwarto ko. Kingston's bewildered face greeted me.
"Oo nga," sagot ko. Isinara ko ang journal ko at tumayo. When I faced him, longing was written all over his.
"But why is it that everytime I come here, you're not around?" Nagsasalubong ang kilay niyang sabi. I smiled at him and cupped his handsome face with my hands. He became stiff as he laid his eyes on mine. I didn't know I could hold the world in my palms.
"I would never get tired staring at this precious emerald eyes," I told him. His face became dead serious.
"Are you trying to seduce me?" He asked gingerly. Agad nagsalubong ang kilay ko at napanganga. Binawi ko ang kamay ko at hinampas ang braso niya.
"Anong seduce!? Kapal ng mukha mo," irap ko. I heard him sniggered and then pulled me on a tight hug.
"Why are you so busy these past weeks?" He asked in his husky voice while I'm in between his arms. Oh I love the feeling of his warmth. It feels euphoric.
"I'm busy reading a history book at the library," I answered.
"Mas mahalaga pa ba 'yon kaysa sa'kin?" Tanong niya na nakapagpatawa sa akin. He's ridiculous, isn't he?
"So pinagseselosan mo ang libro?" I asked in amusement. I felt him shook his head. He started to caress my hair and I closed my eyes to feel his palm on the back of my head, gently stroking it. He must be a healer for he healed my sick soul just by his small gestures.
"I'm just wondering why are you so busy reading," sagot niya. Suddenly, I remember about the grave at the forest.
"Kingston, I saw your mother's grave," I told him. Agad niyang pinutol ang yakap at tinignan ako nang nagtataka. "I saw it when I and Shin were strolling at the forest."
"Are you that curious about my mother? You could've asked me to accompany you there. Hindi ligtas ang kagubatan para sa'yo," he said in his concern-stricken tone.
"I'm fine. I'm with Shin that time so there's nothing to worry about." 'Yon naman ang totoo. Si Shin ang humila sa akin patakbo nang marinig ko ang papalapit na mga yabag ng di ko malamang hayop. If he didn't, I would've faced that creature again like a brave idiot.
"So anong kinalaman ng nanay ko sa pagbabasa mo ng mga history books?" Tanong niya saka naupo sa kama ko.
"Regina Victoria," I blurted. He immediately looked at me and stiffened when he heard his mother's maiden name. "She must be a descendant of the Victoria bloodline, wasn't she? Can you tell me how did she died?"
His reaction became grim and his eyes got deprived of emotion. It seems that I touched a sensitive topic.
"You don't have to know those things, Onyx. Just focus your mind about the upcoming league," he said in a warning tone. I was taken aback. Mukhang ayaw niyang pinakikialaman ko ang buhay niya. Fine, I understand. He must be in a great pain when his mother left them.
