"How much?" You ask the merchant. And he gazes down at the beautiful golden necklace.

"120,790 drachma." He answers gruffly and your eyes widen.

"Wow." You whisper.

You think it over for a few moments before sighing. "I'll take it."

Later...

"Great Goddess, Athena," you call out, and the woman turns to face you, "I bring a gift."

She smiles softly as you walk towards her. You hold out the small box and she takes it in her hands. You can feel the powerful energy radiating off of her as she's so close.

She opens the box and gasps softly. "It's beautiful." She murmurs, and you smile widely.

"I'm glad you like it, great Goddess." You exclaim and she smiles at you.

"No need for formality, my girl. Call me Thena." She says, and you gasp excitedly.

"Athena?" You question but she shakes her head.

"No, just Thena. I don't know where the 'A' came from." She corrects you and you giggle.

"Ok, Thena." You say, and her eyes fall downcast. You can swear you see a light dusting of pink on her cheeks as she does so.

"Be on your way, dear. I'm sure you have lots to tend to." Thena suggests and you nod.

"Thank you, Thena." You mutter and you hurry away.

Just as you reach the doors, Thena calls for you. "Girl! What's your name?"

"Y/N!" You answer and she nods, taking in the information.

"Thank you for the necklace, Y/N." She says softly, and your cheeks heat up.

A few days later...

A Deviant has come to Athens. It tore through several buildings and killed three civilians before Thena and the others put a stop to it.

You were nearby when it happened, and you managed to get a good view of Thena fighting the beast.

She jumped and flipped around effortlessly, slicing at the beast with her glowing blades. You can't help but admire her, she moved so beautifully.

Once the beast is vanquished, you come running cheering and clapping. Thena turns to face you and she laughs.

"What were you doing so close?" She asks, checking you over for injuries.

"I was close by and wanted to see the great Goddess of War in action," you tell her, "you were brilliant." You add on in a whisper, making her blush.

"Thank you, Y/N." She mutters.

"Who's this?" A loud voice asks. You look over to see the Great Kingo walking towards you, and you curtsey quickly.

"None of your business, Kingo." Thena grumbles, but you hold out your hand.

"Y/N L/N. Pleasure to meet the great warrior Kingo." You greet and he gives you a dazzling smile.

"Nice to meet you too, beautiful Y/N." Kingo replies, winking at you.

Your cheeks heat up with embarrassment, and your mouth goes dry.

"Sorry, I'm not- I don't like men that way." You admit, and Kingo's eyes widen.

"My apologies, Y/N. I'll leave you to Thena, then." Kingo says and retreats back to the gathering of Thena's fellow fighters.

You and Thena face each other, your smile wide and hers smaller and nervous.

"Y/N. Do you like anyone?" Thena asks and you clear your throat.

"Uh, yeah. Yeah I do." You tell her, and her eyebrows raise. She takes a minute before speaking again.

"Are they a she?" Thena questions and you nod slowly.

"Are- are they-" Thena starts but you cut her off by placing your lips on hers.

You kiss her softly, and it takes a few seconds before she kisses back. She places her hand lightly on your hip and you pull away.

She lets out a contented sigh, and you mimic it.

From the group, you hear loud cheering. Thena turns around and shakes her head. You wave softly, and a couple of them—Sersi and Makkari—wave back.

For the next few weeks, the group of talented fighters bother you like a pack of dogs, and each time Thena saves you, pulling you away to hide in some little corner of the city.

Each time, you both kiss and hug and enjoy each other's presences.

And in those moments, you can't believe that she's yours. Your protector. Your love. Your goddess of war, Thena.
