Dropping down a tunnel sliding down to our main hideout. I reach the bottom and land on my knees due to my lack of strength. Then roll over as I hear boots rush closer with voices in a panic. I lost a lot of blood and now I am starting to hear and see double.
Feeling arms around me, I am dragged across the floor as they drop me in on a chair. A stab into the chest makes me gasp for breath, feeling my heart first rush to a new height before settling back down.
Taking a deep breath with a sigh as Cal chuckles with relief, "Dear god I didn't think that would have worked."
I nod, "Me neither," then gesturing to my wound, "Help me close this up will you?"
*** *** ***
"There you go," she pats my wound as she then fixes the blood bag, "That should cover anything you lost, but I wouldn't run around if I was you," she then gives me a worried look, "Need help walking to Xani?"
I shake my head, "Thanks but no. Though I have a job for you."
She nods, "Anything."
"Bring in your Enforcer contacts. I have a request."
"This to do with that girl that chased you around or making sure that they keep off our backs now because you fucked up and got caught?"
I nod, "That and making sure they know we are still on their side. I want them to know that we aren't here to cause trouble - though I was caught in the middle of my little heist so I guess we have to pay the price."
She nods, "I'll leave negotiations to you then, they'd love to hear what the leader of the Revenants has to say," she pats my shoulder, then offers her hand to lift me to my feet.
I grab it as she pushes her mask into my chest, "Going to need that, don't want anybody to realize that (Y/N) is among the living, that and I know how shy you are with showing your face."
"Appreciate it, Cal, really," she flashes me a wide smile as she tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear, I then fix her mask to my belt, "How did the dismantling of the shimmer go?"
"We made sure to set it ablaze. It went off without a hitch, though with the names we are making for ourselves - they are starting to realize that both Revenants and Firelights exist... we can't keep hitting them the way we do. They will be more prepared."
I nod, "That they will."
Her eyes then drop to the lack of a right arm. Then shaking her head as if to keep herself from asking any further questions she immediately turns to make contact with them, I drop back into the chair as I shut my eyes tightly to consult my thoughts.
If only that little shadow wasn't there.
I have to fix up my arm and then continue to do what comes next. A meeting with the Firelights leader has been arranged a few days before progress day, then I can continue in hunting down that bastard that did this to me.
After that... Jinx. Walking in Powder's body... I have to take her with me to the afterlife.
I miss them, it feels like I am dying slowly and I realize that it is not alright. I will find my way to reach the end, even though I am lost... I will give it all I have without a second look and I just wish you were still here.
Then again, Violet, I would never have wanted you to see what I have become, the things I have done.
My vision grows darker, for a moment enveloped by the dark only for my eyes to slowly pry open. Revealing that I was carried to my room, lifting myself I glance around the room for a few moments as I try to regain all my senses.
Then out of the corner of the room Cal speaks, "You collapsed, they carried you up to your room but it might be just because of the blood you lost," she sighs, "Going at this pace, (Y/N), you don't have long. You realize that right?"
"I am not here for a long time."
"Not for a good time either," she lifts herself from her chair, "What will come first? Will you ever reach your goal?" she sighs clearly annoyed with me, "Let's take tonight to talk it out. Please if you'd ever take the time to listen to me-"
I shake my head, "We do what we came here to do. We all have our stories, we all have a past, one that we have to live with every single fucking day knowing that we could have either avoided it... or stopped it from ever happening."
"Why are you so guilty then?"
"Because I was scared," then climbing out of the bed I walk for the door, "I killed them because I couldn't stop them because I didn't want to go with them."
"You can't blame yourself for the past."
"I know, that is why I am going to kill him."
"But who is it you are killing? Rud... or (Y/N)?" the question catches me off-guard.
"We are memories of what we used to be," I then turn to her fully, "Or have you completely forgotten the goal of the people here, no matter how morbid and heartbreaking it is. We are only dark stars."
"But we are still people! The revenants aren't dead," she rubs her neck, "The only person following it to a tee, is you. So insistent that your existence is only for the sake of taking revenge!"
I then turn to her fully, "What do you see in me, Cal?" I then pull my shirt away exposing where metal meets flesh.
"A man, so dead set on getting himself killed. Powerful, fearless-"
"A walking corpse of someone that died years ago. As a little runt, I was told to stay safe and keep safe. Out of harm's way, yet I had friends that wouldn't ever do the same. I was jealous, I wanted to be like them but I could never cut it."
"I loved music, it was all that I really had that tied me to a past that I lost. One night, everyone I cared for died. I lost my fucking arm - I vividly remember every second, from every strike... every scream."
The gripping at the broken arm, "He missed, did you know that? The first strike didn't cut through the bone. It took him six more because he kept missing, my entire arm was a mangled mess... Xani had to remove the entire thing."
I then side next to her, watching her over my shoulder, "Understand now?"
She nods slowly, "I hate seeing you like this."
"I would too," I admit, "Though luckily for me, I am blind to my own person."
"I am only making it such a big deal because, despite the reason for creating the Revenants, out there, all of our members aren't doing everything they do only to die. It's to make it better so that we don't have people join our ranks. We aren't death row inmates, just people that were lost that you helped find."
"What I am saying is, (Y/N), we are our own twisted little family. None of us would celebrate your death as a victory of achieving your goal but rather mourn the loss of a father, a friend, a savior."
(Note: Dark Star, is associated with people that have a happy-go-lucky attitude, but they are in reality very miserable. Like the contrast of a star being dark, it is hard to imagine these people being miserable. This is described in the urban dictionary, which isn't a credible source, but I can't find a word that perfectly describes it like this. Plus, I am lazy.)
