Chapter 57

Kaiden shared the location of the vans with Jason. They aimed to keep a very close watch on the vans to keep them from changing paths until at least, they get close to the roadblock.

The Bentley and Rover managed to catch up with the vans. The security team got closer to securing all sides of the vans to prevent any loopholes for future diversions.

"We're trapped." Brian communicated.
"What do you mean we're trapped?!" Nick yelled
"They've got us surrounded at all sides and there's a roadblock ahead... so hell yes, we're trapped!"
"Well, take care of them. Lose them. Do whatever you have to do but make sure you get to the airport. I haven't even started what I want to do. This dress is such a crazy mess. It's like it's stuck to her damn body."

"Stop yelling at me like it's my fault!" Brian retorted
"Well, whose fault is then?" Nick questioned with authority.
"If you had been focusing on the road as I told you to, you would have noticed the darn roadblock!"
"If we had gone ahead with the plan and taken her to the airport when we had her the first time, we wouldn't even be here." Brian lashed back.
"She was dying!"
"So?"
"I don't want any dead body that's not Jeremy Carlson's dead body!"
"I just hope your infatuation or lust or whatever the hell it is that you feel for that woman over there won't cost us our lives."

The vans eventually got to a dead end and the gang opened fire. The police together with the security team sprung into action. They were careful not to shoot into the vans. They still didn't know which van Jayla was in.

The security team including Jason and Kaiden took strategic steps towards the van, closing in on them tactfully while the police continued to secure the area to prevent reinforcement or escape.

It was a dangerous move but it was the only way to force them out. Once they're out, they'll be arrested and Jayla rescued.

The team broke into three and surrounded each van. With very careful gunshots at close range to the body of the vans, the men were forced out in surrender but not after a fierce gun battle.
"Nick?!"
Shock filled the ambience as the men stepped out of the vans but there was a more pressing issue- Jayla.

They were lined up with their hands in the air where everyone could see and guns pointed at them in every direction. The slightest motion detected would warrant a bullet.

But there was still no sight of Jayla.

Hidden under the seat in one of the vans, Jeremy pulled out his unconscious daughter from the van.
"She's here," Jeremy announced and Kaiden raced to his side.

But when they brought her out into the light. They were both horrified. Parts of her clothes were torn into shreds. There was only one conclusion and the two men were not about to accept it without a fight.

Kaiden pounced on his brother, beating him to a pulp.
"I warned you. I warned you never to touch her!" Kaiden roared with fury as he continued punching him.
"It wasn't me. It wasn't me." Brian uttered in pain.
"Who was it then?! Tell me!"
"N-Nick" and then he passed out.

Jeremy rushed to Nick and was about to hit him when Nick reached for a shotgun in his boots and shot him. The police were on red alert as Kaiden immediately locked Nick's arm and Jason wrenched the gun out of his hand but not before he shot himself.

An ambulance picked up the father and youngest daughter of the Carlson Whyte household and sped up to the hospital with Kaiden and Jason following closely behind.

***********The Next Day*********
At the hospital,

Detective Opare met with Renée and her son Jason
She gave them all the answers they needed to know.

"Nick Holland whose real name was Rodrigo Diego is the firstborn son of the late Carlos Diego and the late Anastasia Mical. The child who was reported dead with his mother was in fact, prematurely delivered and tucked away in an incubator in one of the Mafia hideouts. Mr Diego did have another child, however, his or her identity cannot be tracked. We don't know whether that child is dead or alive as of now but my team and I are working on it.

After the accident, your husband and father gave me a heads-up when they noticed Nick's absence or uninvolvement in security duties at almost every family attack. He smelt a rat and personally requested that I look into it.
Rodrigo, better known as Nick was closely working with Lana Treson, Liam Kyle, Brian Torres.

Their original plan was to use Jayla as bait in drawing Mr Jeremy Carlson into Mexican lands where he had limited power and technological control and they had the upper hand. Unfortunately, things went downhill when the mafia boss Nick fell in love, or should I say, got infatuated with his lady boss and here we are.

All's well that ends well."

"Thank you once again, Amber," Renée said.
"I'm happy to be of help." The detective responded and left.

***********Jayla's hospital room**********
I woke up after a couple of hours.
Kaiden had fallen asleep with my hand in his in a chair beside my bed.
I tried not to wake him as I gently sat up in my bed. But that was in vain.
He woke up with a start once I stirred.

"How are you? Are you okay? Should I get the doctor?"
"Calm down. I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" Kaiden asked still tensed
"If you're going to act this way, I'll just fall asleep again."
There was a pause as reality sank deep into our conscience.

We nearly lost each other... forever.

Gently, Kaiden approached the issue uppermost on his mind.
"Do you remember anything?"
"Everything went black but I could still feel my surroundings surprisingly. "
"Did he... I mean did Nick do... Did he do anything to you?"
I noticed the seriousness and anxiety drawn on his face as he waited for my answer.

I grabbed his phone from the table and took a picture. He was taken aback.
"Hey. What was that for?"
"I took a picture. It would last longer. I want to remember this look. It'll give me a good laugh any day."
"I'm serious here Jayla so put that phone down." Kaiden had been firm with me on occasions when he meant business. I guess knowing subtly whether I had lost my 'innocence' mattered a lot to him.

"Okay, I'm sorry. Don't get mad."
"He did try to touch me but no, he didn't have his way with me. The details of the dress were too complicated for him to get me out of it."
I could hear him heave a big sigh of relief.

But then I wanted information too.
"How's my dad?"
