The door flung open.
Jeremy, Jason and... Elijah?
"How is she?" Jason questioned.
"The doctors are optimistic. It's just a matter of time before she wakes up." Kaiden informed
Elijah neared the bed and gently rubbed her pale face with his thumb.
Grief was written all over his face. Kaiden noticed the care and concern of the other man- his rival to be precise. He just didn't have it in him to be jealous.
Right now Jayla needed all the love and care she could get.

"Jason, go process the necessary documents to start her transfer from this place," Jeremy instructed his son.
"Already done that." Kaiden let on.
"Started the transfer to Sinol, it's the best hospital in Boston."
"I appreciate your efforts son but I'd rather have her flown to Austin. Our family doctor can attend to her at home. Renèe is worried sick." Jeremy intercepted.

"That isn't going to be possible sir. The patient is very weak and long flights will only cause her health to deteriorate further. Sinol isn't a bad idea. I know some other good doctors I can recommend there." The doctor's voice came through.
She continued and signalled a nurse to come in.
"I'm sorry gentlemen but I'll have to examine the patient so you'll all have to excuse me."

Jeremy had a phone call so got up and left.

Kaiden was reluctant but under Jason's influence, he obliged.

"Go home and get a shower. You don't want her waking up and seeing you like this." Jason advised
"But-
"Kaiden, you have to look your best when she wakes up now go."

Jason retreated to a corner. He had a lot of calls to make. First, he had to call home then Grandpa Whyte then the girls and then check out things at the office.

Elijah stood motionless before the large glass window watching her. He felt so much pain in his heart. Why her Lord?
Why does she have to go through so much?

********** Sinol Hospital **********
Jeremy arranged for Renée, Jael, Myles and Carrie to come down to Boston. He had Kaiden secure the Waterfront Community and security was very tight in the Sinol Hospital Area. The Torres family was generous enough to give them some apartments in their new apartment buildings in Waterfront.

Both Jayla and Nick were recuperating and the family was greatly relieved. They trooped in frequently.

**********
Myles and Jael visited.
"She doesn't look pale today." Myles made an observation.
"Yeah..." Jael said a bit downcast. Tears trickled down her face.
Myles walked over and hugged her.
"It's gonna be a fine babe."
"Why does it have to be so hard for us? What do those people want from us, Myles?! We can't even share our good news with the family with everything going on. Why do bad things always cloud our happiness even before it begins?!" Jael said as she burst into fresh tears.

Her heart broke to see her very lively sister stuck to some hospital bed.
Myles had no answers either. He just silently prayed for strength for them to go through this and a Job's double portion once this storm ceases.

A feeble voice came through.
"What good news?"

They both turned sharply. The horrific looks on their faces soon broke into smiles
"Jayla!"
"Oh my goodness you're awake!"

As the doctor examined her, Jael contacted her family. Myles was torn between calling Elijah or Kaiden.
But eventually, he did place a call.

"Myles. Any news?"
"Kay... actually yes."
"Well, then get right to it."
"You're so impatient."
"Speak already!"
"She's awake. Jayla's aw-

The call went dead in his hand. So much for picking him over Eli. Next, he phoned Eli.
"Myles."
"Elijah hello."
"Just called to inform you that Jayla's awake."
"She's awake?! Oh, thank You, God. Okay okay. I'm already headed there. Just a couple blocks away."
"Alright. See you soon."

**********Jayla's room*********
Elijah headed straight for her room once he got there.
"Eli!" Jayla squeaked.
He broke into a warm smile and took a seat beside her on her bed.
He pulled a strand of hair from her face.
"How are you?" Elijah inquired.
"I've been better but boy, am I so happy to see you."
He chuckled.

*********Sinol Hospital*********
Kaiden hit the road as soon as he ended Myles' call. He passed by a floral shop to purchase some of her favourite white roses. She would love these.

As he drove against the winds, his mind was on one thing- one person, one God.

Thank You, God. Thank You so so much. Thank You for an answered prayer. Thank You for keeping her. Thank You that I get to see her smile again. Thank You for always remaining faithful to me, never putting me to shame.

He turned on the stereo and sang along from the bottom of his heart in praises to his God.

He raced to the room with the bouquet in hand once he touched the ground at the hospital.

************Jayla's hospital room**********
"You don't know how worried sick we all were I was." Elijah confided
"I'm fine now that's all that matters," Jayla assured him and wrapped him in an embrace.

Just then Kaiden walked in on them. Still, in oblivion to Kaiden's presence, locked in their embrace, Eli took his chance yet again.

"I love you, Jayla."
