The doorbell rang. It was Kevin.
"I can't believe you two failed every session!? Wendy said you're the worst she's ever seen! You two are going to be the death of me." He voiced as he passed out on to the couch.Jayla passed a cup of coffee to him. He sipped it like his life depended on it. He was so dramatic.
"Okay, so what next?" Jayla posed a question
Just when he was about to answer, the door bell rang again. They looked at one another, puzzled.
"Expecting someone?" Kevin asked Kaiden.
"No. Not that I remember."
He answered as he walked to the door."Hey baby. I missed you." A blonde voiced as she held unto to him.
Jayla found that voice all too familiar.
"Won't you let me in?" She urged the now dumbfounded Kaiden.
She just walked past him and then noticed the two other people inside. The tension in the atmosphere built up almost immediately. Kevin looked as if he had seen a ghost.
"Jayla!?"
"Lana!?"
"You two know each other?" Kevin asked when he finally found his voice.
"You could say. Jayla and I go way back."
"Yep. That's us. So glad I ran into you bestie." Jayla replied sarcastically but stood confident.
"Lana and I could barely stand the sight of each other back in high school. We were just... over the top."
"More like arch nemesis." Lana replied assertively.
"Uh, why don't you two catch up?" Kevin tried to avoid getting caught up between them."What are you doing here Lana?" Kaiden's cold deep voice cut through.
"I'm here to see you, the love of my life. I know you missed me too." Lana blew him kisses. Kaiden could only roll his eyes.
"Jayla, can you please excuse us. I'll call you tomorrow." He uttered coldly and by her arm, dragged Lana to his room. She knew it was none of her business but it hurt her that he kicked her out.
'Get your head out of the clouds, Jayla.' She calmed herself as she drove against the winds. When she got to her apartment building later that night, she was surprised to find Nick with her brother, waiting inside.
It's been a while since she last saw Nick. He had been her personal bodyguard for a couple of months when her family's safety was threatened.
But what was he doing here now? Carlos Diego was dead after all. Were they in danger again?"We've been waiting for you for half an hour, Jayla? I called many times and left texts." Jason reprimanded
"I'm sorry. My battery died."
"Where were you?"
"Out."
"That doesn't answer my question."
"It's none of your business Jason."
"Ahem..." Nick tried to break the sibling war that was waging.
"Right. Nick will be your personal bodyguard starting tomorrow. Mum and dad received a threat which bore the seal of Carlos' underground gang. So we'll have to be careful. They're watching us."
Jayla could only sigh. She wondered when all these threats will ever end.
"Nick is next door so he can provide maximum security without intruding your privacy."Nick excused himself and went over to his apartment to unpack. Jason stayed back.
"Jay... I'm sorry I got so worked up. I know you were only looking out for me. I've had a rough night. I didn't mean to take it out on you." Jayla apologized
"It's okay I totally understand. I just feel we've become quite distant. We used to spend lots of time together. Now we barely see each other."
"How about I make it up to you? Dinner on Friday. Home cooked spaghetti with meatballs. What do you say?" Jayla proposed
"Deal"She had a quick shower and was getting into bed when Carrie startled her.
"Rough night?"
"Understatement of the year."
Carrie laughed.
"You'll never guess who I met today."
"Who?" Carrie questioned.
"Lana."
"What a bummer!"
"And do you what makes it worse? I think she has something going on with Kaiden."
"And why does that bother you so much?" Carrie asked
"It doesn't"
"Oh, really?""Let's begin already " Jayla urged and the girls commenced their weekly prayers.

Monday was here. And Jayla couldn't be more excited.
She had a pounding headache and hadn't slept a wink.Insomnia was her new best friend.
She dragged herself to the shower and quickly got dressed. She picked a white flared sleeved top over a dark green skirt and made her Afro into two low buns. The last two parking slots had become their favorite.
Kaiden was getting out of his car as she steered through the driveway.
"Jayla." He walked up to her car as soon as she got out.
"No time to talk. Class is in 20min." Jayla informed and began to walk away.
"But there's no class until... where are you going? Class is that way." Kaiden pointed in the opposite direction.
"Where ever my feet lead me."'She's definitely trying to avoid me.'
