Chapter 10

"You'll do anything huh?"
"Anything, Jayla."
"Okay."
"So what do you want?"
"I've got to think about the offer."
"Sure but don't keep me waiting too long.

" Can I ask you something? "
"Anything but why I'm doing this?"
"Why does this really matter to you?"
"I hope you know that totally the same thing."
"Just answer the question."
"It's personal."
"I'm not entering this with you keeping secrets."
"Fine.. Fine.. I need it as a cover up for my escapades." He lied. He couldn't bring himself to tell her the truth. He wasn't sure how she'll take it.
"Oh..."

Jayla felt a tinge of jealousy and anger when Kaiden disclosed his real intentions but it only helped her muster more courage to execute her plan.

"But now that I've told you, you're in this."
"Hey! Not possible. I never agreed to anything."
"Oh you did the moment you stepped in here as my girlfriend."

Kevin walked in.
"Sorry I didn't know you two were in here."
"Never mind you can come in."
They exchanged glances and Kaiden reassured him.
"You can talk. She knows everything."
"I have a great idea for you two." He was all bubbly like a child in a candy shop.
"This can't be good." The two muttered with pure woe.

When he finally broke the ice, they were dismayed.
"Couple therapy!?" They both exclaimed.
"You've got to be kidding me, Kevin." Kaiden muttered.
"Not happening." Jayla voiced.
"Wendy's a professional." Kevin tried to calm their nerves.

"Good afternoon. I'm so glad to meet you Kaiden and Jayla. This is going to be fun." Wendy the couple therapist voiced elated.
They could only look at each other with horror.

Jayla couldn't believe she agreed to this. It was going to be a total disaster.
Kaiden was literally counting the seconds which slowly turned into minutes.
They both wondered how they'd make it through this. They could barely stand each other.

Wendy took them outside her office to a garden behind the building.
"Do we have to do this outside?" Kaiden protested.
"You'll have to be the cutest couple in public so yes, we'll have to do this outside" Wendy answered with gleam

They took their seats.
"Shall we begin. So name a feature of each other you like most and why? Kaiden, you go first."
"Where's this going?" Kaiden again protested
"Is it that hard to pay me a compliment?"
He looked pensively at her for a moment.
"Go on Kaiden." Wendy urged.
"Jayla, I like you eyes."
"Thank you, Kaiden."
"That's good and now tell Jayla why." Wendy extolled

'Time to spice up this boring session. '
Kaiden said to himself and nodded at Jayla. She got the message.

"Because it distracts me from your crooked nose." He suppressed a chuckle.
"A crooked nose?!?" Jayla repeated
"No." Wendy shook her head

"Okay, my turn. Kaiden, I love your hair." She said with a wink.
"Undoubtedly!"
"It's dyed so well I didn't even notice the greys." She said and giggled.
"You did NOT..."
Wendy could only sigh.

She took them under a tree where mats had been laid and some snacks arranged.
'Hopefully a change of environment will soften them up.' She thought to herself

"Um next... call each other nicknames you think best fits your partner's personality."
"Oh me! I want to go first."
"Sure Jayla. Go on my dear."
"You're my cute white fluffy...
She paused for a greater effect and then continued.
"...goat. Except you're a lot smellier."
"No!" Wendy exclaimed.
"And you're my little furry bunny.... because your front teeth are huge." Kaiden counted
"Oh God..." Wendy was exhausted.

She tried to lighten the mood.
"Ok... OK" she said more to calm herself than ease the feigned tension.

"Tell me one favorite thing your partner does?"
"Kaiden, I like it when you cook because your burnt food smells like your personality."
"No way. I'm the best chef!" Kaiden retorted
"You wish." Jayla uttered with sass.
"Fine. I like it when you sleep, Jayla. Your snores are loud enough to free the world for all this bustle."
"I do not snore!"
"Says who?" Kaiden quizzed with a cheeky smirk
"You-
Jayla was about to let it all out when Wendy yelled.
"Shut upppp!!!!!!!"
Yep. She has totally lost it.
"Get out of my firm you two. You're hopeless! Get out!!!"

Back at Kaiden's, Jayla sat while Kaiden made coffee. Once he brought the coffee, they sipped it slowly. After what seemed like forever, they exchanged glances and burst into uncontrollable laughter.

"We're the worst." Jayla said amidst laughing.
