"Hey." Chloe muttered coyly.
"Jason, you're here." Jayla welcomed him.
"We'll get going." Carrie prompted.
"Right." Jason remarked as he stepped aside to let them through.
"Awkward." Jayla stated a bit unsettled, sure that the girls were out of earshot.
"You're telling me." Jason groaned as he followed her to the kitchen.

He took a seat at the table as Jayla set the table and then sat. They shared a word of prayer and then began eating. After a while of munching, Jason spoke up.
"Your meatballs are always the best."
"I'm the best chef in the family, you must admit." She remarked cockily.
"....after mum baby sis, after mum. No one beats my mama's cooking."
"Right... forgot how you were such a mummy's boy." She teased.
"I'm not... just stating facts."
"Sure, whatever you say mummy's boy." She playfully winked at him. He rolled his eyes.
"So what have you been up to?" She posed a question.
"The usual- work, sleep, more work."
"Father really is really pushing for you to be fully invested in the Corp."
"Yeah, probably because none of his other children wanted to walk in his footsteps."
"Not our fault Jael and I never had a thing for Tech. At least that helped you continue the lineage of Carlson Alpha Geeks without competition."
He chuckled.
"Like you could ever beat me to it."
"I could beat you hands down any day. You forgot Challenge is my middle name."
He chuckled once more. Then there was silence again.
"I'm just so thankful to God for our family Jay. Jael is doing amazing after she experienced God personally with Myles, the love of her life, at her side; Mum's foundation R&J is thriving across Africa providing scholarships to brilliant but needy children across the continent; Father recuperated very quickly and is as fit as a fiddle. And look at you, already about to graduate from one of the best tech Universities and you've already started working in the Corp. Afro Praise is fast reaching out to thousands of people across the country and Carlson Corp has been topping the league table since... True to His word, God has been faithful."
"And that's why we'll continue to sing His praise, because He has been good to us."
She noticed the worry in her brother's eyes and reached out for his hand.
"Jay, whoever's trying to harm our family is up against our God and remember, He is the shield about us, our glory, the lifter of our heads. Don't stress- Be still and know that He is God."
He got up and helping her up, wrapped her in his arms.
"I'm blessed to have you baby sis. You always know the right words to say. Jael and I would be lost without you. I love you."
"I love you too Jay."

The next day came sooner than she expected. After her long night chatting with her brother, she slept in the following morning.
'Thank God it's a Saturday.' She whined.
She had a cooking competition with Kaiden at a hour after midday.
She pre informed the girls last night and everything was set. She was ready to show Kaiden Torres who's boss.
She picked a yellow tank top over striped shorts and pulled her Afro into a messy sock bun.

Kaiden and Kevin got the place ready for the girls' arrival. He'd die before he'd admit it but he really enjoyed Jayla's company and always looked forward to more times to spend together.
After he lost Whitney, he never thought he'll ever feel that flicker of warmth that filled his heart every time he was around her.
But this was not the right time. He was still not over Whitney and moreover, he had a plan to kickstart and that'll require his full attention. Besides, she thinks the worst of me.
' So better start getting Jayla out of your head Kaiden' he mused

The doorbell rang and Kevin got it.

"Holy cow!?"
