Chapter 56

The party began and we all moved closer to the seafront. Tents were mounted and assorted dishes and a variety of non-alcoholic drinks were abundant. There was music and lots of dancing too.

Jason and I were with Jael and Myles taking pictures when I noticed his attention was drawn to something else- or someone else. I let my eyes trail the direction of His gaze and I was not surprised.
Jael had hinted at it several times. And Melanie is the perfect complement for my brother.
"You should go talk to her, you know," I suggested amidst a giggle
"Not after I leave you in good hands." He smirked and gently led me to Kaiden.

"She's all yours now," Jason stated and just left
"Oh, how you love me!" I called out to him.
Kaiden just laughed at the sibling banter.

"Hello", a familiar feminine voice cut through.
I turned to find the ever-gorgeous Torres heiress behind me.
"Oh hi, Brianna. Didn't know you were coming."
"Myles and Kaiden go way back.
He's become a friend of the family and I couldn't possibly miss his wedding.
"When I heard he was marrying your twin, I couldn't be more overjoyed."

Chloe approached us.
"Kaiden, can I talk to you for a sec." I noticed he was a bit startled.
"Of course. After you."
What was that all about?"

"I'm sure you're wondering why I called you out here. I'll just get right into it." Chloe began.

"I've been warding you thinking you were out to hurt my friend but look *turns to Jayla's direction* she's happier than I've ever seen her."

"Whitney was my only friend and when she said-
"It's ok Chloe. I get that you were trying to protect your friend. Jayla's lucky to have someone like you in her life." Kaiden cut in.

"I'll go say hi to Myles." Brianna excused herself as she notices Elijah's approach.

"Hey."
"Hey. I thought you'd already left for Tanzania."
"I leave tomorrow."
Then he began to stare.
"Would you please stop that? It's creeping me out."
He laughed.
"Your glow is back." He remarked
"What-
"Kaiden brought back your glow. As much as I'd love to have been the one, I'm happy you're happy.
Jayla hugged him.
"I'll miss you, Eli."
"I'll call when I can."

*******A few hours later*******
Myles and Jael bid everyone goodbye and were on their way to Hawaii for their honeymoon.

I hadn't seen Kaiden for a while. Where did he run off to?
I strolled a little further from the others to where the cars were parked and then I noticed her.
What's he doing talking to Lana? She wasn't invited. This can't be good.

And then I noticed a gunman on the roof of one of the buildings. His rifle was in place and pointed at Kaiden.
My heart raced so fast, I couldn't even think.
All I could do was

"Kay, duck now!!!"
He seemed confused but went down anyway. The bullet went right above him breaking the windshield of Jason's SUV and then the alarm went off. The security team charged to the scene.

Five men appeared from the shadows and fired at us. Nick quickly dragged me off the scene as the gun battle waged. Kaiden and Jason joined in.

We got into a car and drove off. It was then that I knew something was off. I glanced forward and noticed Brian at the wheel. He turned and smiled at me.

Before I could turn to Nick for answers, he pressed my face with a handkerchief containing a weird-smelling substance. I tried to stop breathing but it was too strong.
As I passed out, I felt Nick reach for the zipper of my dress slowly unzipping it.

"And here I thought I was the bad guy. You're about to do the dirty." Brian mocked in Spanish.
"Shut up and drive. Focus on the road."
That voice. It's the same. I'm not mistaken. Oh my goodness, Nick!
"No peeking got it. Just pretend I'm not here." Brian teased again and burst into laughter.

'Oh God, help me.' was the last thing I remember before everything went black.

********Back at the resort*******
Two of the five died. One was injured and the other two were apprehended.
"Is everyone okay?" Kaiden checked on everyone and then it dawned on him.
"Where's Jayla?" He asked Jason.
"She's not with the others. I thought she was with you."
"Oh no... I think this was a distraction."

He raced to his car and called his security head.
"She's been taken hostage in a black van. There are two other vans with them. They're heading towards the border so will make a stop at the airport. Our security team is giving them a host chase. The police are in a position with a roadblock. They wouldn't get far."
"Send me their location."
"On it Sir."

As he steered the Bentayga off the Resort's premises he noticed both Jason and his dad behind in their Range Rover Sport. They set off with full force and lightning speed.
If the gang get to the border and into their home country Mexico, it'll be a hundred times more difficult to find Jayla.
