She turned on the lights when she got in but jumped with fright as she noticed her father in the room.
"Goodness dad... you scared me!"
"Where were you?"
"Out studying with a friend."
"What kind of friend."
"A course mate."
"This late huh? What's his name?"
"His? Jeez Dad... what is this? 21 questions?"
"What's his name Jayla?"
" Kaiden... Kaiden Torres."
"No!"
"What do you mean by no?"
"No means you're not seeing him again."
"Dad, I'm 18. I'm tired of everyone trying to run my life."
"Not when I still pay for everything you use."
"C'mon dad. There's nothing amorous between us. We're just course mates who got paired up for a Biochemistry project."
He sighed and pulled her into a warm embrace.
"Okay.... but don't lose your head. Kaiden is not really the best person to hang out with but no worries, I'd break him into two before he touches a strand of your hair."
She laughed.
"I love you Daddy."
"I love you more Princess."

With Carrie at Chloe's, Jeremy spent the night in Jayla apartment. She totally understood why. Ever since the attack on the family, dad has been on edge about everyone's security and she didn't mind. She was thrilled to see him back on his feet again.

He had an early flight the next day and before she woke up, he was already up and gone. She had missed her family so much and she continually prayed for them. Her family has been through a lot with the many attacks and the demise of her baby brother Tyler and uncle Edward.
Carlos Diego was dead but apparently all their troubles had just began.

She got dressed.
She picked a denim jacket on a yellow tank top over a denim skirt and pulled her Afro into a ponytail and then got going. She had a Genetics class at 8 that morning.

Classes ended pretty quickly that day. She decided to hurry over to the library before going over to Kaiden's. The mid semester exam was nearing and she aimed to make her parents proud especially her mum.
Renèe had a good record here for being an exceptional student and she aimed to keep up with that.

As her eyes darted from side to side across the book shelf, she felt someone's presence behind her.
"Boo!"
"Better luck next time Kaiden."
"How did you notice me?" He asked, totally amazed
"Kaiden, that alluring mix of woody Oud scent and spicy scents could certainly not go unnoticed." She remarked as she grabbed a book and took a seat. He took a seat beside her.
"So you find it alluring? Good to know." He mocked.
"I meant..." She tried to do damage control but it just didn't work out.
"... whatever."
He laughed.
"How about we complete the project now?" He suggested.
"Fine." She groaned.

They went on to complete the project and managed to quickly add the finishing touches.

They took some time to study other aspects of the course.
Kaiden opened her eyes to the beauty of Biochemistry. It was a fascinating mix of chemistry and human biology. Though the chemistry aspect was a bit complex to comprehend, especially with the study of the makeup of these chemicals, it was all in all a beautiful subject.

"I think that's enough for the day for me." Jayla groaned.
"If I look at one more page, I'll pass out."
He laughed.
"Dinner at 7?" He proposed
"Dinner?"
"Yeah... to celebrate the completion of this project."
"Erm... ok."
"Great. I'll pick you up at your apartment."
"Okay. See you."
"See you." He got up to leave.

'Was it a date?' She had no answer to that. Kaiden was very difficult to read. She made her way to her apartment.

***********
Chloe and Carrie were making dinner when she walked in.

Chloe moved in this afternoon. The three didn't want to be apart anymore and couldn't wait to spend lots of time together. Besides, Edmonton building was owned by the Carlson Whytes so that meant no rent for her.

"I'm having dinner out."
"Where?" Carrie asked.
"More like with who?" Chloe questioned with an inquisitive smirk and both she and Carrie giggled.
"Kaiden" Jayla groaned.
"Oooh, it's a date!" Carrie was bubbling with joy.
Chloe looked a bit downcast.
"You're sure about him?" She questioned.
"It's not a date guys." Jayla informed
"It's just... a celebratory dinner."
"Whatever you say. But it's still a date." Carrie voiced with a tint of humour.
"Humph... just don't lose your head girl." Chloe advised.

'Too late' Jayla muttered to herself.
