It was almost midnight when Ash decided to stop training. After thinking about it for a bit. He decided to start for Vermillion City right then and there. He went back to the Pokemon Center and got his stuff. Without another hitch, he set off toward Vermillion.

As Ash walked, he was very alert about his surroundings. While he wasn't sure whether people got jumped in this area, he didn't want to take the risk. After a while, he decided to let Charmander out to help him see better.

They two of them conversed while they walked through the forest and casually stopped to rest every now and then. Ash decided to let Pikachu out as well so he could see what was going on. By 5 AM, Ash could see the outskirts of Vermillion.

"There is no way we walked that fast" Ash said in disbelief. "It took way longer last time."

Then, with the sun's light, he noticed the faint blue glow surrounding him and his Pokemon.

"No wonder I felt like we were in one of those time-lapse videos" Pikachu said shaking his head. "I thought I was going insane"

"You are mentally ill" Charmander snorted. "You started talking about ketchup while walking like some zombie looking for brains."

Ash sighed at the two Pokemon who started bickering. He looked out towards the buildings and saw the gym.

"Guys, we don't have time for this. We have to get to the gym as soon as possible. I want to shove that guy's face into a generator after the battle. He's so idiotic and stupid."

"Damn right. He said I was useless unless I evolved. I'm gonna show him what this pre-evolution can do." Pikachu growled, obviously still mad that he got dissed.

Ash and his 2 Pokemon were now standing in front of the entrance to the Vermillion City Gym. Ash walked in and looked at the clerk at the front desk. The clerk nodded and opened the door for Ash, who walked in.

Once he was in the Gym, Ash finally understood how a real battle went in Vermillion. There were tesla coils in the ground and a metal flooring on the battlefield.

"This is rigged" Ash said mentally to his Pokemon.

The two Pokemon nodded. This was outrageous. The only way to not touch the ground was to float or fly, and flying types were weak to electricity. There was no possible way this followed the guidelines for Pokemon Gym Battles.

On the Gym Leader's side, Lt. Surge looked at Ash with a victorious smile.

"I'm glad you made it. I was hoping I didn't scare you the last time we met. I wanna have a good battle every now and then."

"What is all this stuff. There's no way the Pokemon League allows you to do this stuff." Ash said in a calm voice, trying not to sound mad.

"Aww... are you a bit of a sissy? I know a few wires can't be that scary."

Ash took in a deep breath; he couldn't argue with this guy. He pulled out a Pokeball and stood that the Challenger's side.

"This will be a 3v3 with the Vermillion City Gym Leader Lieutenant Surge and challenger Ash Ketchum."

The referee pointed his flag towards Lt. Surge signaling him to throw out his first Pokemon.

"Alright Electabuzz, show em' your sparks!"

Ash narrowed his eyes. Electabuzz did have some sparks around it. There was only one explanation. Its ability was Static. (A/N: Yes I know that it's not possible chill out)

'That's weird. You'd think he'd have an Electabuzz with Motor Drive. Oh well, this guy is insanely unorthodox anyway. I shouldn't have expected anything different.'

Ash decided it was finally time for Gible to get his first start in a Gym Battle.

"Go, Gible," Ash said with a hard look. He knew that this might not end well for him. Surely a Electric Type Gym Leader would prepare for Ground Types, even the egoistical Surge would have common sense.

"Battle begin!" The referee called out.

"Alright, Gible, start off with Rock Tomb" Ash ordered. While he knew the move wasn't very powerful, he could use it as a test to check the field in case Surge had set and traps like the cheater he was.

The huge chunk of rock slammed into and trapped Electabuzz, doing a fair chunk of damage.

Ash furrowed his eyebrows. There wasn't any metal or anything underground to prevent Ground Type moves. Was Surge really playing fair?

"Electabuzz, break out with Thunder Shock!"

The rock exploded.

"No way. No Thunder Shock is that powerful" Ash whispered to himself.

Pikachu nodded.

'Even the Raichu's back at the fields took a long time to get that powerful. No way an Electabuzz can produce so much energy. I bet even an Electivire would need some training and practice before it's able to do that.'

Ash then realized something.

"Wait a second. I thought you were the one who said that you should evolve Pokemon as soon as you can."

Surge looked surprised at the revalation. It was true, he hadn't evolved his Electabuzz. Maybe it was time to do it.

Surge smiled. "You're right, kid. I guess I forgot, I am getting a little bit older nowadays." He stepped forward and pulled something out of his pocket. An Electirizer. He threw it towards Electabuzz who caught it.

"Take this too, little buddy" Surge said and threw a Rare Candy at Electabuzz. (A/N: I know you have to trade to evolve, but I don't think it makes sense for people in the anime to trade and instantly trade back. So, for any future evolutions which require trading to evolve, I'm just going to ignore that and give it a level which the Pokemon will evolve at.)

The Electabuzz ate the Rare Candy and began to glow. Soon a bright white light engulfed the Gym. Ash and his Pokemon looked away and when the light died down, a tall yellow Pokemon stood with tails on it's back.

An Electivire.

A/N: I know I've been saying this a lot, but I haven't updated in a while. I've had exams over these past few weeks. In fact, I'm having 2 Midterms tomorrow which should be interesting. Anyway, once school is out on Friday, I can finally start updating again and get back into my usual rhythm of updating daily. I might also have to go back and read my books because I've kinda forgotten everything. Everything should be back to normal soon though, so let's gooo. 1100 words, cyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
