SIERRA.
"Oh Sia you're back."
I hear mom's voice as soon as I shut the door. "Hi mom," I greet loudly as I walk through the foyer.
I find her seated in the living room typing away on her laptop. "What are you doing?" I ask as I make myself comfortable next to her on the white leather couch.
"Working." Obviously.
"On?" I ask as I peek over her shoulder and she swats me away.
"Stuff. Go do something...eat or anything. Can't talk right now I'm busy. Sorry honey." She says in one breath.
Wow, people around here are always working and working. It honestly bores me and I miss the bonding time mom and I used to have when I was younger and she wasn't working this much. She would tell me stories about every other thing I asked her and she would tell me all about her work. I'm not sure why that changed when I grew older but I don't want to dig deeper because I've done enough of that and I'm not sure I'm ready for any more surprises. I stand up to walk away towards my room and leave my mother to herself when she calls my name.
"Yeah?" I turn back facing her as I stand near the staircase.
"What are those?" I look at her confused before I look at my arms where she is pointing. "Oh shit," I curse under my breath. Why didn't I hide the flowers in my bag? My big head just had to carry the things in my arms like a baby for everyone to see.
"Um, flowers?" I chuckle nervously. Mom rolls her eyes.
"Yeah I can see that but who are they from?" Oh come on, how old am I?
"I bought them for myself. Is that bad?" I feel bad for lying but she caught me offguard and I'm very sure she would not like to hear the truth.
"You're lying." And this is the moment I hate the fact that she can see straight through me.
"I'm not! It's self love mom." I turn to the stairs to rush to my room but her voice stops me again.
"Young lady, you better tell me who it is or else I'll have to tell your dad about it and you know how he gets." She says sternly and my stomach immediately drops. No, not dad. Ugh. Why is my life miserable?
Mom pins me with a demanding look and I inwardly groan and glare and stomp my feet. Yeah, I'm that mad. And immature. I descend the stairs walking towards her and she even closes her laptop to look at me. Oh so now she's not busy anymore. I inwardly scoff. I begin to wring my fingers under my mom's stare.
"Who is it?" I grimace.
"Uh Tom?" Fuck I'm such a bad liar.
"Nice try. Go again."
Can somebody tell the ground to open up and swallow me already? I let out a sigh.
"Mom, I'm not dating anyone but...we're just seeing each other so it's not official. Honestly there's no reason to tell you and then we end up not dating." I say as I plead for her to understand me. She lets out a sigh of her own.
"Is it that neighbour's kid of ours you used to like? Mateo?" My face immediately flares in a deep blush but it's not from liking him, it's from embarrassment.
