A/N- This is part two of the Wen Ning oneshot from yesterday. This is my first time writing for Yanli, so I'm sorry if it's awkward or not written well.
YANLI WAS AWOKEN early by the sound of someone knocking on her door. At first, she just muttered tired insults and rolled over on her other side, putting her back to the door and not focusing on the person on the other side of it, hoping they would just go away. As a new mother, she barely got any sleep as it was without having to deal with annoying visitors at 5 in the morning. When the knocks didn't stop, however, she got up out of her bed and answered the door so as not annoy the person knocking and not to waste their time if it really was a serious issue they needed help with. It was more than a shock to her seeing you on the other side of the door though. She knew you since you were a high rank in the Jin clan and also very friendly with her, but you weren't close enough to come to her room so early and ask for help. At last, that was what she thought.
When she heard what you said, however, her blood began to warm, and she felt rage boiling up in her chest. How dare that bastard Jin Guangshan put such an innocent sweet soul like Wen Ning in prison, and torture him to the point where he was choosing to disassociate rather than face the pain. As much as he acted like a weakling, Wen Ning was a very strong man. It wasn't normal at all for him to be like this. It would take a lot of energy to break him. The poor man must have suffered a lot before breaking. She wanted to help him in any way possible.
"Can you go to the doctors and ask for anxiety and depression medication? If he takes that, he may calm down. They won't let me take it because they know I don't have those issues. But you have diagnosed anxiety and depression, right?" you asked.
She nodded her head and said, "Depression, yes. Anxiety, no. But those two medications often go hand in hand. I'll be happy to ask for some. And I'll make soup for him too. Everyone loves my lotus root and ribs soup. It's nutritious too, and the poor boy needs nutrition, stuck in that prison and being fed nothing but dirty unseasoned rice every day. I'll be there by eight. Wait there for me."
You did as she told, waiting by the entrance of the prison until eight, when Yanli came with her soup and a small bag of herbs for anxiety. She gave you a smile to show she noticed you and then you entered the prison separately so the warden wouldn't suspect anything was off.
When you reached Wen Ning's cell, you were shocked at the state he was in. He was lying on the ground with his mouth open, drool trickling down his lips. He kept on whimpering and whining, trying to say things, but his lips wouldn't press together and his tongue was stuck down on the bottom of his mouth. Jin Guangshan had given him a large amount of drugs to paralyze him because he was constantly complaining and fighting during torture. When he was paralyzed, it was easier to hurt him, which was obvious by the large pool of blood the poor man was lying in.
Yanli gasped and cried out in shock, appalled by the terrible treatment of the prisoners. How could the elegant, well mannered Jin clan treat their prisoners like this? Powered by her anger, Zidian sparked purple with energy.
"Wen Ning! It's me, Y/N! I brought someone that can help you. Can you see her?" you asked.
Yanli came over to stand next to you, and smiled a tearful smile at Wen Ning. When the man saw her, he immediately recognized her as the woman whose husband he had killed. The woman who the Jin clan said all the pain he was suffering was for. Terror filled his eyes, and he tried to push himself up from the ground into a standing position, but his hands were numb, and they only clawed at the ground helplessly.
"I think he's scared of me," Yanli said, frowning. "Why would he be scared of me?"
You didn't know the answer to her question- but then it hit you. Wen Ning had killed Yanli's husband, Zixuan. He was currently being punished brutally for it. The Jins were probably saying that he was suffering for Yanli's behalf. He was probably scared that Yanli would hate him, or that she was there to hurt him.
"She's not here to hurt you, Wen Ning," you said softly, kneeling down by the man's side. "She made you soup and brought you medicine. Will you take it?"
"U-uh...y-yuh," Wen Ning said, shaking his head slightly.
"Uh-uh? So you won't take them? But she brought them to help you," you said.
Wen Ning's body was beginning to regain feeling again. He focused hard, and was able to bring his hand up to touch Yanli's hanfu. She smiled at him and said, "Hello, Wen Ning. I'm Jiang Yanli. I'm here to help you. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"He'p m'," Wen Ning slurred, his voice still recovering from the drug. "Give... me..."
Yanli understood what he was asking for, and handed him the herbs. He took them in his hands and tilted his head back, downing them and choking on them as they went down his throat.
"Help me," he whispered. "Soup."
Yanli opened up the pot of soup and gave Wen Ning a spoon. When he sipped it up, he choked it out at first, and began to cry. He probably wasn't used to the texture yet. He'd been eating only rice for so many days, and it was rice coated in mold, so the texture probably wasn't pleasant. The nice warm feeling of soup was something he wasn't used to anymore. So he would just have to get used to it.
Yanli, being the kind older sister she was, gave him small spoons of the soup until he got used to it, then gave him more, until he had eaten the entire bowl of soup. When Yanli closed the pot and you turned to talk to her, Wen Ning probably thought you were leaving, because he grabbed you by the skirt of your hanfu and wailed, "No! Help me! No!"
"We're not leaving," you told him. "We're going to sleep here with you tonight. And the next day, we'll stay with you all day. We'll live with you until the clan realizes we won't leave your side. Hopefully then they'll rethink keeping you tied up in here."
"Y-y-you will?" Wen Ning said, his voice trembling with emotion. "You r-really w-will?"
"Until you get let out or until we all die," Yanli said firmly.
He burst into sobs at hearing this and learning how supportive you were of him. He rested his trembling hands on your shoulders and sobbed, "I love you. I love you!"
Together, the two of you held Wen Ning in your arms, and fell asleep in the same position. No matter what tomorrow brought, you were united in love for one another, and that was the strongest weapon of all.
A/N- Another part will finish this off since I feel bad ending it here. I hope you enjoyed this part though. I never write for Yanli so this was fun. I hope it was good and that you guys enjoyed it. I love you all... see you later!
