A/N- This is my first time writing for Sizhui so forgive me if it's not good. I love this precious bean so much, I want to hug him and just hold him and tell him how amazing he is. He deserves it.
"JIEJIE, A-YUAN IS HUNGRY."
Those words that came out of the mouth of the toddler next to you shocked you out of the painful dream you had been having. You opened your eyes and saw the small figure of A-Yuan clutching onto your dirty, torn hanfu.
You were only three years older than him, a six year old, but you had the wisdom of an eight year old. You had always been the one to take care of Yuan. Now that all the Wen adults had left him, you had to act like an adult. And that wasn't easy.
"I'll go to the garden," you told him. "Don't leave, okay? Stay here."
You got up and wobbled out into the garden. You were a fat child, and even without much food, you still retained your pudgy figure. You lurched through the garden like a drunk man, not stopping until you found two turnips. You knew that you could cook those somehow and make them edible, but you had no clue how to cook.
As you were contemplating the possibility of being able to eat a turnip raw, you didn't notice the flash of a man in a white hanfu flying through the air and landing in front of the place where A-Yuan was hiding. You didn't notice him pick up the boy in his arms and carry him out of the Burial Mounds. And you didn't know that that man, Lan Wangji, was taking Yuan to the far away mountains of Gusu, to his home, Cloud Recesses.
When you had thought about the topic of eating turnips raw for almost five minutes and come to the conclusion that it would be best to not do that, you had to return to Yuan with the bad news that you had to go to the town and beg in the streets for food again. And that meant being kicked around until you bled by those Jin clan disciples.
"The Jin clan is full of meanies," you said, clicking your tongue the way the Yiling Patriarch, or as you called him, Xian gege, did when he didn't like a person.
When you returned to the place you and Yuan were hiding in and saw that he wasn't there, you began to panic. You ran all around Burial Mounds looking for him, but he wasn't anywhere to be found. Due to the stress of losing him, you cried yourself to sleep that night.
————————————————————————When you awoke, you were welcomed by the scent of incense burning and the warm feeling of blankets stretching over your small body.
You opened your eyes and gasped in shock. You had seemingly been brought to paradise in an instant. The room you were in was richly decorated with fat golden vases filled with lotus flowers, rich wood tables with jade inlaid into carvings, and a thin but beautiful lace curtain separating the sleeping area from the living area.
Your blanket was a rich purple, and your pillow was beaded on the ends, which made for a uncomfortable sleep, but it was so fancy you didn't care. And the part you slept on wasn't beaded, it was a soft cloth that was stuffed with downy feathers. You had never slept better in your life. Judging by the light coming in from the window next to your bed, it was afternoon already. You surely had slept a lot!
You slowly and hesitantly rose from the bed and moved into the living area of the room. Your small body could just barely reach the top of the table, and you couldn't reach the door handle, which showed that this door was made for adults. Thankfully you weren't trapped in there. A few minutes after you awoke, the door opened, and two people that were as richly clad as the room was stepped in. One was a woman, the other a man.
