WEI YING SAT ALONE in the darkness, curled up below a tree in the forest-covered mountains behind Cloud Recesses, shivering from the cold, crying from the argument he and Lan Zhan had just had.

The two of them were a loving couple and rarely had fights with one another, which was why this one was so shocking. As he thought back on it, Wei Ying couldn't remember what he and his husband had even fought over. But somehow, it ended with him running away from the Jingshi and getting lost in the mountains behind Cloud Recesses.

He could still remember the things he had to Lan Zhan before he ran away. They were terrible things, words he never would have uttered had he been in the right frame of mind. But one thing was worst of all.

Before he ran away, he had yelled, "Well then, I'll go kill myself again since you obviously don't care if I'm alive!"

In the moment, he had thought it to be an amazing insult. But now he was worried. Lan Zhan hadn't seen him for the whole day, and he might not see him for a while longer if he couldn't find his way back to Cloud Recesses. What if his husband thought he had actually killed himself?

"I'm sorry, Lan Zhan," he whispered, looking up at the starry sky as if the stars could carry his whispered words to his husband's ears. "Forgive me, my love."

As the stars and moon watched over his body embraced by the harshness of the mountains, Wei Ying slept a painful, but dreamless sleep.

When he awoke the next morning and viewed his surroundings in the early morning light, he realized that he did in fact know the area where he was, he was just unable to realize it in the darkness. However, he was far away from Cloud Recesses, and would have to walk for 2 hours to reach there.

For his husband, he would do anything.

So, he began the painstaking journey back to Cloud Recesses, never looking back and never complaining. No matter how much pain he was in, he had to make it to see his husband and let him know he was okay.

When Wei Ying finally reached the Cloud Recesses, it was early morning, and a group of juniors were having a class outside. One of the juniors, Lan Jingyi, noticed him and rushed to his side, shocking his classmates and making his teacher angrily mutter about his bad behavior.

"Master Wei! Sizhui was so worried about you!" Jingyi exclaimed in his loud way, alerting every junior in the class that Wei Wuxian, the husband of their Second Young Master, had returned home. Lan Wangji's troubled heart could finally be at ease now. And a certain young man's heart could also be soothed.

"Master Wei!"

A crying junior threw himself into Wei Ying's arms, holding tightly to him for fear he would disappear again. This junior was the previously mentioned Lan Sizhui, who was exceedingly grateful to see his adoptive father's lover back alive and safe.

"Oh, A-Yuan," Wei Ying said softly, wrapping his arms around the young Lan disciple and stroking his hair to calm him down. Ying loved the boy as much as Lan Zhan did, if not more. After all, Sizhui had been the one to comfort him in the Burial Mounds when he was still a toddler. And that deserved all the love ever possible to give.

"A-Xian," a voice as calm as the bright blue sky said.

Wei Ying looked up when he heard this voice, knowing his brother-in-law, Lan Xichen, was speaking. When he saw the dark circles under Xichen's brown eyes and the way his hands were trembling on Liebing, he knew that something was very wrong. Xichen was an exceedingly calm and enlightened man. He never trembled, and he always slept perfectly well. So when it seemed as if he was no longer doing those things, something was badly wrong.

"What's wrong, Huan-ge?" Wei Ying asked, calling his brother-in-law by his birth name to try and establish a common ground between them.

"Lan Zhan... he's locked himself in his room and won't eat or drink. He says..."

A loud sob found its way out of Xichen's chest, alarming Wei Ying all the more. What did Lan Zhan say that was so terrible? What did his husband, his lover, his soulmate say to hurt his brother so much?

"-He said he'd die to be with you. He'd kill himself if it meant he could see you again. I'm scared, so scared for my didi..."

Wei Ying didn't even hear Xichen's last sentence. He didn't care. He was already at the Jingshi at that point, pounding on the door and crying out his husband's name as loudly as he could.

"Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan, please, answer me! I'm here, I'm back, I love you, I'm sorry, I-"

The doors burst open and Wei Ying was silenced by a shaking, crying, broken Lan Zhan grabbing ahold of his hanfu and hugging him tight, crying into his husband's thin chest, holding tightly to his weak body. Mo Xuanyu's vessel may be young and handsome, but it certainly was not strong. And this was not shown more than when Lan Zhan held his husband. Wei Ying's original body hadn't been strong either, but Xuanyu's body was pathetically weak.

"Wei Ying!" Lan Zhan gasped, refusing to let his husband move even an inch. "Wei Ying! My Ying..."

"I'm here, Lan Zhan," Wei Ying said tearfully. "I won't leave you again."

After many minutes of holding each other and crying, Lan Zhan said, "I thought you were dead. My Ying... my bunny... mine..."

Wei Ying's heart was broken. The words he had said had really scarred his husband. How could he fix this mistake?

"I'm sorry, Lan Zhan. I love you so much. I'm sorry I hurt you. Let me-"

Lan Zhan wailed when Wei Ying tried to get up and out of the bed they shared. Panicking, he clutched the other man's collar and choked out, "Don't leave me."

"Zhan zhan... bunny... I won't leave you," Wei Ying promised. "I just wanted to get-"

"Don't go," Lan Zhan pleaded. "Just for now... hold me."

And Wei Ying happily obliged, holding his husband in his arms. They stayed together the whole day, and by the end of that day, the fight was completely forgotten.
