i'm staring out the tallest tower,
looking for any sign of his return.
i know he's out there,
the man that i know and love.
he's lost his way,
took the wrong path into
the darkest forest.
i know he's strong enough
to find his way out but
i fear that the whispers of the trees
will mess with his head,
leading him farther into the depths
of darkness that lingers in the foggy air.
very few have escaped,
the roots seem to raise up from the ground,
trapping people under them
like the claws of a lion.
i refuse to leave my tower until
my love makes his safe return,
to the one place that is meant for him.
i will guard the kingdom i have built for us,
sword at my hip, crown on my head,
bandages lining the center of my back
from where his blade opened my skin in betrayal.
i still refuse to give in because
a queen will always stand by her king.
