---- Nova POV ----
"Darling? Are you in here?"
You groan internally, hearing your adoptive father enter the family quarters. You were not looking forward to this little get together, whatever the reason was that he had requested it. You tried to avoid him the best you could, even taking your own quarters and moving out of the family quarters a few years ago. "General Enric Pryde."
Enric noticed your mocking, bored tone, but as always, chose to ignore it as it was nothing new, "Nova, You know I hate it when you call me that."
You smirk, "Oh? Would you prefer something a bit more informal? Pryde? Enric?"
"How about Father, Nova?" Pryde asked exasperatedly.
"Hm..." You tap your chin, and then shake your head, "No. My daddy issues just wont allow for it. Plus people might think I know you." You sat at his perfectly polished dining table, and put your buckled, knee high biker style boots up on the table top, leaning back in the leather chair, "So what do I owe the pleasure of this little family gathering?"
Enric eyed your boots, and shook his head before answering, "Ah. Yes. I got word about your request for a transfer off of the Steadfast. General Hux has agreed to have your aboard the Finalizer, he was in need of a Major for the Weapons department anyway. So your transfer has been approved, much to my chagrin. Nova, you know I would prefer that you stay aboard the Steadfast, that you --"
You put up a hand to silence the cloying lecture that was about to begin, you didn't need it. It was always the same thing. You weren't interested, "Yeah, yeah. So when do I leave?"
"The transport leaves at 1600. I have explained your.... unique interpretation of the dress code to Hux." Enric eyed your blood red and black hair that cascaded in curls to your mid-back, and the jewelled piercing that sat shimmering in the crook of your cupid's bow, as well as the stud in your tongue that clicked on your teeth when you were irritated. You knew he hated how you dressed, how you replaced items like the belt on the unflattering, shapeless uniform for an underbust black corset to cinch your waist.
You smirk at your father, "So General Hux was okay with it?"
"He.... expressed his displeasure at your unwillingness to follow rules, but accepted it seeing as you're my daughter."
"Ugh... you told him?" Your features creased in disgust, "You can call him and tell him not to tell anyone else."
"Nova," Enric said tiredly.
"Enric," You replied mockingly. "Anyway, I gotta go pack. It's been fun, but we're done here." You get up and straighten your clothing, "Don't come see me off, no need for goodbyes. Adios, Pryde."
Without another word you walk out, and head off to start packing for your fresh start.
---- Pryde POV ----
Enric watched her go, shaking his head, a heavy sigh falling from between his lips. He didn't want Nova to go. Her leaving meant that his already strained relationship with Nova had even less of a chance of being repaired. But he also feared what she may find out whilst aboard the Finalizer. He had managed to keep his wayward daughter out of the cross hairs of those in positions of more power than him for the most part, though your antics in bars, quarters parties, and your appearance certainly made it difficult. Nova was, and had always been, a wild child. Insanely intelligent and fiercely independent, he had to accept early in Nova's life that he could either attend to the First Order, or he could attend to Nova's antics. But he hadn't the time nor the energy to attend to both. He was loyal to the First Order, but he also had a hunger for more. More power, more respect, more.... everything. Enric wanted a Legacy. The Pryde Legacy. He felt that one day Nova could be the answer. He had known that from the moment he had found Nova, and that was why he had falsified every piece of information about Nova. Her medical records, her midichlorian count, bone dating, dental records, education records, everything. He had found her in an ancient ship, on a distant planet, frozen in Carbonite. Something screamed at him that she was important, that he should keep her and raise her. So he did. At first as a duty, but over time he had grown to adore having a daughter. She was a hellcat, but she was also his darling daughter and he loved her dearly. Their rift was because he refused to tell her anything of where he found her, or who she was before he had her. He understood that she desperately needed information, but it was safer that she didn't know. All the First Order knew was that he had found an abandoned child, and had chosen to raise her as his own. He had killed the Troopers and Scavengers who had found the ancient ship in the first place. It still sat there, in that distant desert, even if it was found, no one would know what it was but a wreck in the desert. Only he knew that was where Nova had been found. Only she had been woken from her ancient suspended animation, the others in their carbonite tombs had been destroyed. There was no one except him in the Galaxy that knew her history.
He had paid the best tutors in the Galaxy, for her physical and educational training. Nova had excelled and made him proud. She had then joined the First Order and continued to make him proud as a Major. She had Enric's drive for progress and bettering herself. He loved that about her. Their relationship may be strained, but if it meant that one day she would find herself more powerful than a General like himself, than so be it. She would be the Pryde legacy. She suffered some damage from such a long Suspended animation in Carbonite. Nova had suffered badly with hibernation sickness, and had symptoms to this day. Amnesia of her life before Pryde, confusion about her early childhood with Pryde. These things together meant that barring her love of abhorrent hair colors and piercings, she was hidden in plain sight, and right inside the First Order, ready to become a leader when the time was right just as Pryde wanted. Pryde was glad that her unique uniform at least hid the tattoos that snaked over a lot of her body. Sometimes excusing her behaviour and body modifications was a task. He was surprised when Hux had been so willing to allow it, but then... Hux was a conniving asshole and would probably dangle threats against his daughter as a way to curry favor, or more likely hold Enric in a position he wanted him in.
Nova being in Hux's clutches made Enric nervous. Not to mention, he had always ensured that Nova never met Kylo Ren or the Supreme Leader. And now, aboard the Finalizer, she would be at the mercy of all those he had hidden her from. He could only hope that all they noticed or cared for was that she was a poorly uniformed, red headed, party girl who was actually extremely good at her job. He could only hope that Nova discovered nothing about herself, and didn't start asking questions in hopes someone else could tell her what he would not.
Enric sighed, and ran a hand through his hair. He straightened his uniform and headed back toward his office. He was going to try putting his racing mind aside and getting some work done. He knew in his heart that it was a futile task. But he needed a distraction whilst he counted down the hours to his only child being shipped off to the Finalizer. Enric was going to see Nova off, much to her distaste he was sure. But, like her, he was stubborn and rarely listened when it went against what he wanted...
