If there was one thing Keigo wished for the future, it was that Bakugou M/n got to live a happy life.

But listening to his misplaced trust on the other end sent the blond haired man into a spiral. As the teenager on the other end spoke animatedly about how good it was to hear from him, a raspy chuckle escaped the man.

"What's so funny, drumstick?" the young associate member asked, a grin still effortlessly plastered on his face at hearing his friend, the number three hero, Hawks on the other end.

"Nothin', nothin', chicken little." The man laughed, "I'm just glad to catch ya at this pivotal moment in your career!"

"Huh? Whaddya mean?" his infectious laughter died down.

"Oh- well, ya'know!" Hawks clutched the Nicki Minaj covered laptop in his hand, something similar to guilt stinging his veins, "The sports festival! A lot of heroes are gonna notice ya and snatch ya up for training- take you away from me."

Hawks shifted on his feet awkwardly at the silence.

M/n was contemplating his words.

"No one's takin' me away from you, bird brain." the older twin chuckled, a little confused at his friend's words, "Are you okay? Sound a little uneasy, man."

"Just worried about you." The hero lied, swallowing the trepidation down his throat.

"Oh." M/n scratched the back of his burning neck, "I'm fine. Getting through it, it's not too bad at the moment... I'm only kinda worried... but it'll pass."

The boy with a heavy burden on his back was still reeling from his previous affirmation with Harumi and their little brother. He had one little person cheering him on when it seemed no one else would (of course he didn't know Mrs Midoriya was intensely sniffling at her son and Todoroki's ongoing match, waiting for her next son's match).

"Kei?" the quiet seriousness in the boy's voice stilled Hawk's gaze that was forced on Kurutta, who sat on her large-backed chair, flicking her cigarette and seething through her teeth.

"Wo-worried about what, little man?" He cursed the tremble in his voice brought on by the Commissioner's hard glare. Rotating the cigarette like a threatening knife, burn marks still littered his valentine-red wings, the smell of singed feathers suffocating the air.

"Fighting my brother. If Endeavour's son wins this match, and I win my next one, we'll probably be against each other, and if I win that one..."

"You and Tiny will battle it out." Hawks sighed, wincing at the smell of his own ash gracing his nostrils.

A walking, talking, burning corpse talking to a scared little boy down the telephone wire. A little boy who desperately wanted to protect himself and his brother, who sometimes cared more about grades than doing the Association's dirty work.

"I won't lie," Keigo continued, gulping at Kurutta's raise of an eyebrow, "It'll hurt, kid. It'll hurt like hell. And you won't be no hero to that class of yours if you win. But you'll do what's best, won'tcha? You'll get yourself out of any tricky situations?"

"'Course." M/n sniffed, coughing away an oncoming sob, "Mom will hate me more if I win, though. And the crowd won't like me. Not even a little bit. I can't cry like Zuku, or be brash like Tiny to win them over. I... I always have to play the bad guy."

God, he sounded so, so disappointed in the outcome of his life, and it made Hawks place down the laptop and clasp a hand to his trembling lips. Squeezing his eyes shut, he ignored Kurutta's cutting-throat action, telling him sternly to cease the call.

"Ain't nobody gonna have a flame to your candle. Ya hear me? You're Bakugou M/n, youngest association member to help out on a mission against AFO. First youngster to make that cranky Aizawa ever laugh. Ain't nobody gonna hate a ray of sunshine like that. Ever."
