Sitting in the backseat of Dad’s Aston Martin with Emily safely secured in her car seat beside me, we began to drive towards the city.
Dad dropped me off first at the animal clinic where I'm working, and then he would drop Emily off to her school, and then he would drop Mom to her charity meeting before he went to his office.
“Bye Mom”
“Bye Dad”
“Bye Angel” I kiss them one by one as they drop me in front of Pet Mundo animal clinic.
“Take care!” I said to them before I closed the car door.
“I always do Princess” Dad smiles at me before continuing on their journey.
"Good bye Lissy!! Love you" Emily shouted as the car began to pull away.
I remain standing in front of the clinic watching as our car drove farther and farther away until it disappeared from my sight.
After flipping the “Open” sign onto the clinic door, I start checking out the animals that are boarded up inside.
There are two old Mau cats that are temporarily boarded in our clinic because their owners are away on an extended vacation; and there’s a little Pomerania who got confined yesterday from an upset stomach and I'm hoping that his owners will pick him up later.
After checking the animals health and feeding them, I sit in front desk waiting for a customer, feeling bored because my co-worker/co-owner Cara is sick today.
Finding nothing else to do I begin watching some boring re-runs on the clinic’s television.
Chills passed through me as I saw a car tumble and roll, turning a solid piece of metal into mangled mess of twisted iron and shattered glass.
Thinking about my family, I was thankful that Dad is driving them up to their designated destinations.
Dad is probably the most cautious person I know especially when it comes to driving.
Dad lost his parents to a vehicular accident where their drunken chauffeur crashed them down on a ravine as they went home from a charity ball.
From then on Dad would never trust our safety to anyone else other than himself, Mom and Uncle Tom,our housekeeper’s husband.
The bell on the door chimes signaling that someone entered the clinic. Sure enough, Tiki the Pomeranian puppy’s owners arrive to pick him up and after giving them a stern word of caution against giving too much treats to the rambunctious puppy, they left.
As I walk back to the front desk I hear my mobile phone ringing. Looking at the screen I see “MOM” flashing up.
“Hello. Mom?’
“Hi, sweetie. How are you?”
“I'm fine, is everything alright? Did you and Dad pick Emily up?”
“Yeah, Emily is with us but we are driving to Madrid”
“What!? What happened?” I blurted as I feel fear in my chest.
“No, don’t panic Sweetie. There’s a problem in your father’s Madrid branch and he must go there immediately”
“Sorry Mom.” I replied, feeling a bit foolish for panicking so quickly.
