RECAP:
"I know you will, Thallan but she's not yours to own." She laughed sarcasm visible in her voice. "Don't you dare take what wasn't yours and try to take it by force, Thallan. You once saw me destroy almost the whole vampire community and I will never hesitate to wage war on your kind if you won't heed my warning."
A slight shiver running in my body but it was not caused by the intensity that belied her threats. I turned around towards the window and saw the reason of my shivering as the sun slowly peeks out from the horizon.
Then out of the sudden a question popped out of mind. Did Viviene have a hand on my summoning? Did she planned and helped Elisha in some way that I will be summoned by her?
I looked back to her to voice out my inquiries, swearing loudly when she was nowhere to be found. She was gone without a trace and lying on the spot where she was previously seated was Elisha's necklace and of what was left of the oak pendant.
"Viviene! Come back here!" I gritted out.
"See you again, Thallan. Take care of your summoner and keep that necklace on her." Her whispery voice floated in the air before her powerful aura disappeared altogether, plunging the room in darkness.
I still sensed the fading tendrils of her energy and I could easily follow after her but I stopped myself when I felt Elisha stirring under the blankets.
"Thallan?.. What happened?"
*************
I woke up groggily with my head throbbing like a jackhammer on pavement. I remembered what happened last night but weirdly enough I heard snippets of conversation even in my dream-state, it's as if Thallan was talking to somebody as I sleep although I could not understand what they were talking about. Only garbled mutterings reached my hearing but I definitely heard a woman's voice or is it just a dream?
"Thallan?" I croaked out, sensing him without even opening my eyes. "What happened?" I felt the bed dipped by my side and I opened my eyes, narrowing it into a slit when the rising sun hurts them.
"Are they gone?" I quivered, knowing that the morning will never truly dispel those creatures once they found me again. They will just lurk at every shadow, in every dark crevices, waiting and watching for the opportunity to pounce on me when I once again drifted out of my body.
"I'm right here, El. Don't worry they are gone. Here, drink this." A second later I felt the cool rim of a glass against my lips and I greedily drank the refreshing water it contained, it effectively soothed my parched throat. I started to open my eyes, wishing that everything that happened the night before was just a dream and it didn't even happen but the moment my eyes met the shattered windows and the debris littering the floor, I broke down into fits of hysterical tears while rocking myself back and forth.
After years of burying them in the depths of my mind in hope that I will altogether forget that horrifying night when they made themselves known to me in the most frightening way. Now, they came back with a vengeance.
The smell, the oppressive energy and the fear that they brought along with them pulled those memories back to the surface, bringing out the same hysteria and fear that they permanently etched on my soul.
A touch on my shoulder made me jumped and screams in terror, only to see Thallan infront of me and his hand hanging in midair where my shoulder once been. A fleeting expression of hurt and sympathy crossed in his face before an unemotional and stoic mask replaced it as his twilight-colored eyes regarded me intently.
Casting my eyes down, I wrapped my arms around myself, wishing with everything in me that my father was here to hold me, to offer the security that his arms can only give or Mom's comforting and assuring touch, and even Emily's calming presence. Tears once again poured out of my eyes when the realization that even if I died wishing for their return, they will and never will be back because it's not the way the world revolves.
