Someone is still looking for me.
Someone is still wishing that I will be found.
Someone is out there who knows who I am.
For all this years I believed and accepted the fact that I do not have any blood family left.
I always thought that those who left me in front of a police station didn’t want me and the fact that no one claimed me in the orphanage.
There is no word that can describe how much I love my adoptive family but deep inside of my heart, I still want to know my biological parents and find answers to my questions.
I have countless questions that linger in the back of my mind and torments me as I grow up.
Now.
Now, I have a grandmother who has been looking for me in all of these years.
“Mam, we believe that you are Mrs. De Real’s missing granddaughter”
My heart did a somersault in my chest with those words. I'm somebody’s granddaughter!
Oh.My.God!
There’s so many questions that I wanted to ask that I don’t even know where to start.
“Where is she?” I asked as I try to digest everything. The need to see her is becoming strong and urgent as if something is telling me to find her soon and fast.
“Mrs. De Real is currently residing in Ashford, Mam. Here is her address”, the other detective said and he produced a piece of paper where the person who knew my past lives.
“Thank you” I replied briefly, clutching the piece of paper in my hands tightly.
“ASHFORD”
For 18 years, the only person who holds the key to my past is just a 2 hour drive from our ancestral home!
“I need to see her” I whispered as I blindly run towards the door but Uncle Louie blocked my way, his broad, rock-hard figure encompass the whole doorway.
“Move” I said imperiously as I tried to move him away. Uncle Louie just chuckled on my effort to push him aside.
“Doll, I think you should go there tomorrow. You’re not in best shape to meet your ‘grandmother’”
Uncle’s words made me notice the faint throbbing in my head and cheeks.
Uncle Stephen!
I swerved around to see what happened to my good-for-nothing Uncle and I found Uncle Tom helping him up on a nearby chair while I heard Carina asking Auntie Cora for a first aid kit.
Wow! Uncle Louie packs one heck of a punch as I looked at the bloody mess on Uncle Stephen’s face.
I don’t know if I should feel elated because Uncle Louie beat the crap out of him for hurting me or should I feel guilty because of what I’ve said to him thus his furious attack on me.
“Well, he deserved it!” I heard Grandma Liliane exclaimed as she went to check my face. I winced when she touched a tender spot on my left cheek.
From the corner of my eyes I saw the two detectives look from me to Uncle Stephen and back to mine, and they seem to connect the dots on what transpired in this room before they arrived when I saw Detective Niall took a pair of handcuffs.
“Mam” he said to me “Do you need our assistance here?”
I throw a questioning look at Atty. Luke and he gave me a barely perceivable nod affirming that he will support whatever my decision is.
“No, Detectives. It’s just a bit of family misunderstanding” I replied, it’s not fair to Uncle Stephen that he will go to jail because of me. I, after all instigated that attack by attacking him up verbally first.
“Gentlemen, I think we need to sit down on this information you brought.” Atty. Luke said as he shakes hands with the two detectives. “I'm Atty. Luke Salvadore, Falcon’s attorney”
After sending Uncle Stephen to a nearby hospital, we again seated ourselves in the comfort of Dad’s study as we try to learn the secret of my identity.
Stepping out of the car I survey the little house where my grandmother lived. It’s a cozy Victorian house with a magnificent array of exotic plants and rare flowers in front of an expansive garden.
Walking up on the porch with its elaborately detailed beams I start knocking on the brass knocker of the solid ebony door. I heard Carina walk up beside me the same time that the door creaks open revealing a middle age woman.
She might be grandmother’s caregiver as her uniform shows.
“I'm El…” the woman didn’t wait for me to finish introducing myself as she pulled me inside the house, leaving Carina with nothing to do except follow us inside.
“I know who you are. Madame is waiting for you for such a very long time” she crooned as she dragged up on the staircase. I can distinctly hear the tip tapping of Carina’s heels as she quickly followed us.
The woman who introduced herself as Ana knocks on the door and I heard a faint ‘come in’ from the inside.
Ana opens the door and disappeared inside. I took a couple of deep and calming breaths before I step inside, and meet the woman who is my grandmother.
