RECAP:
“I challenge you.” Fuxal started, bringing my eyes back to him at the same time I saw Thallan in the corner of my eyes, he was gripping the tree really hard that his unsheathed claws buried themselves on the hard, century-old trunk.
“I challenge your claim on her.” He breathed on my ears as I gasped sharply when I felt his presence on my back, his hand on my hip where my mark lies and the other one on my shoulder.
One moment he was several meters away from me, surrounded by the debris of destruction that they created and the next instant he was behind me. I even heard Jake’s yowls of pain as an invisible force ripped him away from my side, sending him hard on a nearby boulder where he lay panting in pain
I saw Thallan stepped forward with his blood still dripping on the ground, showing an immense panic on his face and it scared me a lot.
“ 3… 2…” I stiffened when Fuxal weirdly started to count next to my ear while he placed his splayed hand over my mark.
“1!” He finished then a searing pain shot through my body, making me scream out loud as I slumped hard down on the ground as Fuxal released me and I clutched hard on my right hip where the mark was embedded and where most of the pain radiated from.
A twin growl thundered around me; a furious one filled with anger and rage, and a challenging one filled with defiance and dominance after that an ominous silence reigned; the wind subsided, all creatures fled in silence and all sound disappeared.
Electricity crackles around, tension cloyed the air and there’s a palpable power pulsating on the ground.
I looked up and my eyes widened as Hell on earth started to break lose..
Literally!
*************
Fuxal intercepted Thallan’s charges and the sound of body hitting against another one thundered on the woodland as if a bomb goes off and they started to tear at each other.
I can barely see them as they moved like a blur, only the sound of their claws and their fangs finding their mark on each other’s body was the only indication that they were still fighting as well as the trees falling and breaking at their path, leaving so much destruction in their path and leaving deep gouges on the earth.
The pain in my side subsided into a throbbing ache and I checked Jake’s injury, sighing in relief that he was just knocked out cold then I proceed to gingerly following the path of broken trees and scorched flora in searched of them, praying silently that no human will notice them inspite of the ruckus they are currently making and that Thallan wasn’t hurt or anything.
My eyes widened when I finally caught them, just in time to see Fuxal throwing Thallan against a tree, cracking the trunk in half with the force of Thallan’s body hitting it.
“Thallan!” I screamed in horror when he slumped down on the ground, giving no indication if he’s still alive or fatally wounded.
I started to run towards him but Fuxal barred my way.
“What do you want!!?” I snapped, hitting his already bloody chest with my fists, desperate to go and check my demon.
“You.” He replied nonchalantly as he stepped forward and his intimidating presence made me step back but I kept my eyes on Thallan’s.
“Why me!? I already I have my demon! Leave us alone!!” I screamed at him, my chest heaving with my emotion. “You know that Thallan is still bound to me!”
“That’s why I challenged him, Elisha. It’s true that unless both part of the deals was fulfilled neither you nor Thallan can break free from it but if I killed your demon, I can take his place in the deal.”
