Chapter 6- Vulnerability

Signora stood at the door for a while as you continued sobbing by yourself, she pondered a few things and felt something for you. She had agreed with the deal only because both of you were going to the same place and she never saw you as a threat. As a matter of fact, she was somehow thankful to you as you played a vital role in the events at Liyue and helped in progressing the contract, even if you did it unintentionally.

She had thought for sure you'd try to fight her as soon as you see her again and attempt to take back Venti's Gnosis but your calm and rational response had surprised her and her impressions of you changed. Earlier, she didn't care at all as long as you didn't become a hindrance in the Fatui's plans. After knowing that you were able to stand your ground against Childe, she knew you shouldn't be taken lightly and she was willing to keep an eye on you just to be on the safe side.

But your honest and straightforward responses made her change her mind and she agreed to take you along and she thought you could be made an ally rather than an enemy. The Fatui were preparing to wage war against the divine and surely having an otherworldly being with near-omnipotent powers such as yourself would be very advantageous so she thought she can make you join the Fatui gradually, probably after staying with them for a while.

But perhaps she was having second thoughts now, perhaps she genuinely wanted to help you now in any way possible. It was unlike her, she had no reason to help you, she could easily break the deal any time and nothing would change. She only cared for her mission and the Tsaritsa's dream and you were just someone who happened to cross paths with her the two times she took the Gnoses.

Seeing you like this, this vulnerable and honest side of yours sparked something in her- perhaps it was sympathy. Her subordinates had to prove themselves through rigorous training that they are loyal to her, she didn't trust her own colleagues either as she knew everyone has their own agendas and not everyone thinks of the Tsaritsa the way she does but she felt something different for you.

"Hmph, wallowing in sorrow by yourselves like this. Imagine if I had left you alone to camp outside...."

She sighed and gently knocked on the door. You were startled as you heard the knocks and quickly wiped away the tears from your face and got up then opened the door.

"O-Oh, you are still awake Signora. What's the matter?"

You asked with a smile, a forced smile and she saw right through it.

"Come with me."

She didn't say anything more and proceeded to walk away and you followed her, feeling confused as you had no idea what had happened. She opened the door to her room and went in and you stood at the doorway, feeling it isn't right for you to go inside someone else's room but she called you in and you stepped inside feeling slightly nervous, you glanced around the room and it was just as cold as the rest of the mansion and only the dim moonlight from the window illuminated it.

"Lie down on the bed."

She said- more like ordered- while pointing to the bed and you were even more confused now but did as she said and shyly sat on one side of the bed.

"I said lie down, not sit up. It's the middle of the night, do you expect us to chatter the night away or will you use your head like all the other times?"

"What happened, Signora....?"

Her eye squinted once again into the same icy glare and you finally gave in and laid down, she too climbed up on the bed and laid beside you. Both of you were facing each other and she suddenly came closer and kept her palm on your face gently.

"Sleep."

She immediately closed her eye while her palm remained on your face, your heart fluttered seeing her up so close and the way her hand rubbed on your face in a tender and soothing manner. You were utterly confused by this action of hers but didn't think about it anymore as you were too lost looking at her.
