Chapter 84- A New Experience

Once the induction ceremony was completed, you were to meet your group of subordinates and be guided through the workload assigned to you. Pierro entrusted the responsibility to Signora, knowing she was one of the best and most responsible for such kind of jobs and of course was acquainted with you the most.

"It seems you will be assigned the same unit that was under Scaramouche. Earlier, they had been reassigned to different Harbingers but are now brought back together." said Signora while escorting you to the training arena assigned to you.

"I see, do you know how they were under his command? I have barely heard anything about the work he used to do and everyone just talks about disliking him."

"Hehe~ Well, I'll leave it for you to judge on your own. All I can say is....perhaps it would be good to show your gentle nature~"

"Huh....interesting."

She chuckled then opened the door to the hall and you were immediately met by the sight of over 50 people standing straight in 10 lines, hands behind their back and not a hint of movement in their positions. Almost looking like mechanical creatures. You became suspicious then Signora left things up to you while she sat on a nearby chair to watch and guide you if required.

"Uh, good morning, everyone."

"Good morning, Lady Isabella."

They exclaimed in unison but their tone seemed dull, almost as if this was a chore for them. 

"Well, I'm your new superior from today. You might already know me since I trained a few other units then was even part of Lady Signora's unit. I will do my best to be a good superior and train you all, do not hesitate to ask me for help ever irrespective of the situation."

"Understood, Lady Isabella."

"O-Oh, just call me Y/n, really."

You smiled and they were caught by surprise, hesitating to accept but felt it's better to agree than refute. Signora smiled to herself and knew this was going to be a fun session to watch. You knew they were already well aware of the basics as all were experienced in missions so it was useless reiterating the basics. 

"I'd like to see everyone's individual skills so pair up with each other and I'll conduct a series of friendly matches with each pair on different conditions. Any questions or suggestions?"

"No, ma'am."

You became further confused, "Why do they seem so....bland? None of them are speaking with excitment....Am I a boring person?"

You sighed and kept that thought aside then called up the pairs one by one and made them have different kinds of matches ranging from hand-to-hand combat, weapon proficiency and elemental knowledge. You noted down a score against everyone's names as you carefully observed their performances; as you expected, they were tough and trained just like all other units but something lacked in them which you couldn't pinpoint.

"They don't need much improvements beyond a few techniques and weapon usage. That can be easily taken care of but there's something else....they all seem nervous of something and are holding back quite a bit. Do they not like fighting each other? But that's quite standard in every military training, how else are we supposed to train?"

You were lost in your thoughts when you heard a loud thud from the corner, you immediately turned to see a woman frightened out of her senses followed by a small cabinet fallen beside her, it majorly contained documents hence there wasn't any loss but the area was covered with glass shards. You quickly walked up to the woman who became even more scared seeing you come and immediately kneeled down in a begging position.
