"Best Friend" - Jinxx

The rain was streaming down the windows, and thunder roared somewhere in the evening sky. The rain was gradually turning into hail, but there was nothing you could care less about tonight. Your best friend and roommate Jeremy had just gotten back home from tour yesterday, and tonight you had some time to catch up on everything. “I’m so happy that you are home again, I really missed you” you said as you plopped down beside him in the couch. The apartment you shared had been lonely, while he was gone. “I missed you too (y/n)” he said and awkwardly hugged you from the side. He turned on the TV, and you both sat in silence.

There was a loud bang and a messaged popped up on the screen. *No signal* it read. “Damnit” Jinxx, as he was called, murmured. “Whatever it is okay” you said with a smile. “So how’s everything been back here?” Jinxx asked. “The same, but very lonely” you answered. “Well I see you got a haircut” he said quietly. Awkward conversation, you thought. “Well yeah, but I see you didn’t garbage-can-man” you laughed, as an attempt to make the conversation less awkward. He laughed, and you playfully grabbed a tuft of his hair. “I mean look at this, it’s almost longer than mine” you laughed as you started braiding it. “What are you doing (y/n)?” he asked and looked at you from the corner of his eyes. “Braiding your hair” you said, and he shuddered. “It will probably look ridiculous” he stated. “Why so grumpy today?” you said, as you placed the end of the braid on the other side of his head with a bobby pin. “Because you are braiding my hair” he said with a small laugh.

You found a hair donut and made a bun on top of his head with it. “Seriously?” he asked. “Yup” you said popping the P. He pouted, and it made your heart flutter. What the hell? You thought. “Now get it out of my hair” he said, and you stated taking it out again.  “Happy now?” you asked, when you were done. “Yes” he said. “Why so negative today?” you asked, and he shook his head. “It’s nothing” he said quietly. “Oh come on, you can tell me” you said with a smile. “It’s something personal” he murmured. “You can tell me, I’m your best friend” You said getting a little nervous. “Ha. Yes. But no I can’t tell you” he said and sighed. “I’m sorry, have I done anything?” you asked getting a bit sad, that he felt, he couldn’t talk to you. “Don’t you see it? I don’t want to be your best friend anymore!”

Silence. Then the tears started to sting. “Every day I have to pretend I am perfectly fine being your “best friend”, I can’t take it anymore” he said and let out a frustrated sigh. He put his hand on your cheek and made you look at him. “I want to be so much more than that” he said, before he leaned in and connected your lips.  You pulled away and stared at him in shock. “What the hell Jinxx?!” you said. “I’m sorry, but I couldn’t take it any longer” he said and looked down. And that was when it hid you. “Jinxx…” you whispered. He looked up to meet your gaze. “I… I think… I love you” you said. “Really?” he asked, and you nodded. You leaned in and connected your lips again. Your lips moved in sync. And that was when you realized it. You had always loved Jinxx, you just didn’t know it was more than friendly love.
