"Wake up!" A voice called out. Jace opened his eyes searching for the owner. The curtains were drawn in his bedroom so all he could see was the person's silhouette. The shadow was short with flowing hair. Jace would have guessed Clary, but he knew that she wouldn't be able to escape Amatis's house. It was Rose.
"Slow down dhampir it's"- he checked the clock on the bedside table- "...nine in the morning?!" he exclaimed. Jace never woke up after eight. It was usually impossible for him to sleep in. His training regimen didn't allow it.
Rose opened the curtains, blinding him. He sat up and rubbed his eyes.
"Why are you waking me up? I figured you'd be still asleep with that vampiric schedule and all..."
Rose crinkled her nose. "Actually this would be the time I would go to sleep, genius."
"My bad." Jace looked down at himself and realized the summer heat had made him strip to his boxers in the middle of the night. He wished he wouldn't have to talk to her in this state.
"Why aren't you awake is the real question. Aren't you going to see your girlfriend off? The Lightwoods have already left."
Jace pressed his hands back on his eyes, but this time out of mental irritation instead of physical. "Shit. I completely forgot! Is she gone? Urgh I was supposed to check with her last night to see if she had convinced her mother... I'm not this off handed..."
Rose shrugged. "There's not much the Lightwoods can't do that you could. I'm sure they want Clary around too."
Jace shook his head. "I still need to be there." He wiggled out of the thick comforter and awkwardly threw on the jeans and v neck that he had worn yesterday. Rose didn't seem fazed. Jace wondered if he had lost his manly charms.
Without a word he ran out of the bedroom, pulling on his shoes as he went. Outside Rose ran alongside him, easily keeping up with his pace.
"I need you help," she finally said.
"What now?" he mocked.
"Oh shut it! Adrian and I need an escort to see... someone..."
Jace slowed a hair. "Let me guess, Lissa? There's no way my people'll let you see her."
"Exactly, that's why I need your excessive charisma."
"Well you're not wrong... Huh, let me clear all of this up with Clary first and then we'll see."
She frowned, but nodded. Soon the looming hill of the Guard appeared. Jace could pick out a small crowd at the gate. It consisted of a pissy Jocelyn, a slightly annoyed Luke, a mortified Clary, awkward Lightwoods, and an uncomfortable Jia Penhallow.
Distantly he wondered where Magnus and Adrian had wandered off to, but didn't think too much of it.
