Getting into an argument with Rose Hathaway was probably Simon's first mistake. She had pressed him against the wall of the Lightwood's living room, barely giving him enough room to breathe. Jace and Clary were trying to pry her off, but Simon knew she wasn't going to budge anytime soon...
His second mistake was the fact that he wouldn't let her win. You'd think that he'd learn to appease his attackers by now.
"Don't do it, Simon! Promise me you won't do it!" she snarled.
"Guys! This is stupid!" Clary cried, "Simon, just let us find another way!"
"I am not... going to... let you... do this... for me..." Simon gasped. Damn, she was strong. Simon also had to consider the fact that she had been training to be a guardian all her life and he had only been training for less than a year. And did Simon feel that difference now...
The weirdest part about it was Clary and Jace"s combined strength could not even make this girl stagger a little. Was she truly the vampire she claimed she wasn't? Or was the might of one guardian, trained to combat Strigoi, more than that of two shadowhunters?
"Promise me!"
"I will not-" Simon heard a door slam. He looked behind Rose to be greeted by the sight of Clary's mother and Luke trailed by uncertain Lightwoods and a frowning Magnus.
Clary and Jace released their hold on Rose immediately. Rose, on the other hand, only loosened her stance slightly.
"Clary, what is going on?" Jocelyn said slowly.
Clary blanched. "Hi... Mom... It's not what it looks like I swear..."
"Get her off him! Who even is this?" She gestured to Rose. Rose let Simon go, wisely seeing that Jocelyn was more of a threat than he.
"I'm Rose Hathaway, ma'm," Rose said levelly.
Jocelyn shrugged off her politeness. "Why were you pressing Simon against the wall?"
"He was, uh, was making a horrible mistake and I was, uh, helping him understand the, uh, weight of what he was doing..." Rose was loosing her calm under Jocelyn's gaze. Maybe it wasn't strength that belittled Rose Hathaway, but overprotective parents.
"Well, Miss Hathaway, I am sure there are other means of doing so," Jocelyn said coldly. She fixed her glare back on her daughter, who was hiding behind Jace. Simon felt sorry for her.
"Clary you are in so much trouble right now. Did you really expect me to believe that you guys were taking a field trip to the Los Angeles Institute? I could tell by the first call I made over there that you guys had bribed the Blackthorns to keep your cover! They're just kids for god sakes!"
"Mom, I-"
"Then I get a call from Maryse Lightwood asking if I knew anything about the real reason why you guys wanted to go to Alicante. She said that you guys had wanted to report back to the Clave about your visit to the Moroi Court, but had sensed there was a bigger reason. Next time you want to go off to see vampires without my permission be a little smarter about it next time, honey!"
