It's a funny thing to find your boyfriend alone in a broom closet. It's even more worrisome when he's whispering to himself "out of time" over and over again.

It had taken Isabelle and her brother an hour to find Simon (no thanks to the influx of shadowhunters due to the meeting). She was worried about him. Whatever he had confronted the night before must have shaken him.

"Simon?" she said tentatively.

He snapped out of his trance. "Izzy? Alec? What are you guys doing here?"

"Looking for you," Alec said.

"Did you know that you were here all night?" Isabelle blanched.

Simon had a far away look in his eyes. "I saw Asmodeus when Brother Enoch was trying to help me."

Isabelle sat down on the stone floor next to him. Alec remained standing.

"He's going to attack Alicante if I don't turn myself in... I have to do it, Iz. It's not even about Rose anymore."

"Simon, there are other ways to do this. Magnus has found a way to permanently damage Greater Demons. We can save you, Rose, and the city. Just let him try, please." Simon looked at her meaningfully. The distant look had transformed into a look of hope.

"I want proof. If he can't prove to me that whatever he's working on actually works... I'm handing myself over. We only have three days..."

Isabelle gave Alec a look that she hoped meant that she wanted to talk to Simon alone. Like any close sibling, Alec understood and slided out of the room.

Isabelle took Simon's hand. It was cold as ice.

"Simon... please don't do this... I can't loose you... not again..."

"Isabelle-"

"Don't I deserve that?!" Isabelle fought to gain control. She would not let Alec overhear them.

Simon's face was etched in pain. How did someone out of Isabelle's family come to love her so much? "You think this is easy for me? I can't risk endangering the people that just took me in! I have to do this! I. Don't. Get. A. Choice."

A tears pooled down Isabelle's face. She shouldn't cry. She wouldn't cry. Simon's arms circled around her. She shouldn't cry. She wouldn't cry. He wiped her tears and kissed her softly. She shouldn't cry. She wouldn't cry.

After a few minutes in the bliss that Izzy couldn't live without, it was her brother that finally interrupted them. "I'm sorry, but we should head to the meeting. I have a feeling it's not something we should miss." Simon and Isabelle broke apart and followed him out of the room, as if they had not said goodbye.

In the sweaty council room Isabelle's father was addressing the issue of the Moroi Queen to the Clave members who had just arrived for this event. She could see Clary, Luke, and Magnus in the audience. She sat by them and gave Clary an alarmed look. The caliber of the meeting worried Isabelle even more for it meant that what was happening to Lissa was real.
