Intuition was a fickle thing for someone as illustrious as Magnus Bane. He never had much use for it in his eight hundred years of life, the result of it was too unpredictable. So when he saw Simon Lewis try to breach the doors dividing the living from the dead, he was surprised to find that he had a hunch about the one responsible for Simon's peril.
His suspect wasn't completely out of the blue though. Who was the only infernal being out for Simon that could wield that kind of power- one that the shadowhunters had not destroyed or cast back to their native dimension?
That one was none other than his father, the Greater Demon Asmodeus.
When he told his discovery to Alec, his reaction was similar.
"Asmodeus?! Are you sure?" He exclaimed. They were in Magnus' apartment preparing for the trip to Alicante. After fleeing Court the shadowhunters and he had agreed that it would be wise to go to Alicante, lest the queen try to 'convince' them as well. Lissa was too unstable to handle the Clave and if they could intercept her the damage would be contained. But before they could go, the Lightwoods would have to get authorization to Portal in Alicante so Magnus took this opportunity to take a pit stop at his place.
"Positive. Once we get to Alicante Simon needs to see the Silent Brothers. The possession that my father placed on him is different than Lilith's and is easier to contain since Asmodeus is casting it from his realm."
"How do you know he isn't here?" Alec said rummaging the closet for a scarf. Magnus was amused that Alec, who had been so reluctant to get more clothes from the apartment, was packing things that if he had brought Alec would call him out on. Magnus wondered if he should notify him that if he tried to put that scarf his suitcase would explode.
"Let's just say if he was in this dimension we'd know..." Magnus said evasively.
Alec came back empty handed, predicting what Magnus had and sat on the bed next to where Magnus was sprawled. The whole scene before him reminded Magnus of his dilemma at guest housing, but this time Alec and his roles were reversed.
"So what is he trying to do? I mean it makes sense that this has to with us breaking our deal with him, but why go through the trouble of opening the doors to the dead when he can just turn Simon back? If it was nothing to bring Simon to life I'm sure it would be cake to re-vamp him."
"Re-vamp? That's cute," Magnus said and laughed at Alec's reddened face. "Isn't it obvious? He's trying to kill Simon without angering Raziel. It's not exactly secretive considering only Greater Demons are powerfully enough for such a feat, but it's indirect and that is all he needs. There isn't enough proof for Raziel to justify anything."
"I didn't know Raziel needed a court case to smite people, but I guess that goes with the being an angel thing and all..."
"Morality always-" Magnus started to say, but was interrupted by the sound of the front door opening.
"This is not what I expected from a warlock's lair," Adrian said, voice ringng through the house. The other reason -and more controversial- why Isabelle and Jace had to get authorization to Portal was due to their royal and slightly annoying baggage, Adrian Ivashkov. In the short amount of time when the queen had given them a break, Adrian had begged to be taken with them, claiming that he could be of help. They had hastily consented, assuring each other that if they were wrong about Lissa's next destination they could just ship him back. "Aren't there supposed to be candles and dust ridden books everywhere? Where's your cauldron? "
Magnus hoped that if his boyfriend and he stayed silent then maybe the Moroi would think they were not home. But after a few moments Adrian discovered them, his face lit with a child like wonder. Adrian was a curious vampire. He was the one of only people that was given the title of interesting Magnus Bane. The emerald green eyes of his spoke sorrow and deep sadness, but the way he carried himself as the charismatic, yet, pathetic party boy... it was an enigma to Magnus. He had always had a soft spot for those who were broken (hence his love for Alec) and Adrian was no exception, especially since Magnus recently discovered that like Lissa he was a spirit user.
