Dimitri never would have thought that he would have to undergo the same pain Rose had felt when he had to turned into a Strigoi. He had always imagined that it was a pain that would fade with time, like when a loved one died. This was something constant, never ending... At least when someone died it was a final thing, but he was forced with the knowledge that she was out there, wrecking havoc on other's lives in a way that was different then with him.
He couldn't bring himself to call either of Rose's parents about what had happened. He knew Rose had done the same for him and he would eventually. It just wasn't the right time.
This was because a traitorous part of him hoped what Clary told him was true. That Rose was being possessed by a demon.
He didn't tell Lissa this. Dimitri didn't want to encourage her, despite the grief that she was in. Lissa had locked herself in her room after they had ended the brief search for Rose. The only person allowed in was Christian.
Well until now. Dimitri knocked on Lissa's door loudly.
"Your Majesty! It's time for your presentation to the Clave!" He called, hoping she'd show her face.
Dimitri heard what sounded like a groan and exaggerated footsteps. The door was opened a few moments later to reveal Lissa's messy hair and tear stained face. Dimitri saw Christian on the bed asleep behind her.
"Dimitri..." She said softly as if it was him that had been crying in bed all day and she was the comforter.
"You have to meet them, Lissa." He tried to hide all emotion from his face.
Lissa looked at the ground. "I can't... That plan is the reason why she's... like that... I was so focused on it that I couldn't protect her."
Dimitri tilted her face so she'd meet his eyes. It had taken a while for Dimitri to be comfortable with doing things like this- things that weren't usually acceptable between a dhampir and a Moroi. Lissa had been insistent on him to treat her like a friend and now it was an important time as ever for him to apply this, as uneasy as it made him sometimes.
"It's not your fault. There's nothing we could have done. You have to move on... for her. You have to finish. It's what she would have wanted."
And like that something changed in Lissa saddened face. A deep determination that Dimitri knew had no limits. He worried if maybe he had motivated her too far. Dimitri let go of her face.
Lissa stood up a little straighter and brushed her platinum hair out of her eyes. She was back in full queen mode.
"Get the others. We're going to the Guard."
"Now we invite Queen Vasilisa Dragomir of the Moroi and dhampirs to take the floor." Jia Penhallow's voice rang through the Guard. From the doorway Lissa walked confidently to stand next to the Consul and the Inquisitor, who Dimitri was told was the Lightwoods's father. Dimitri hoped that wouldn't hurt Lissa's case.
