"SIMON!" Isabelle screamed. What was he doing?! She ran towards him, ignoring the ghosts that swarmed around her. She could faintly hear her brother cry after her, but what he said didn't matter. Simon was all that mattered.

Simon turned his head slightly at her cries. She grabbed the back of his jacket and found him stiff.

She pulled harder and managed to get him out of the door's view. Izzy faced Simon and gasped. His face was devoid of all emotion. It reminded her of Jace's when he had been possessed by Lilith, as if there was someone else controlling Simon's body.

"Simon," she whispered, "It's me... Isabelle..." Isabelle cupped his face in her hands. He didn't react. "Come back to me... Tell me what's going on..."

He simply stared at her. She wanted to shake his shoulders in frustration, but a sudden gust of wind stopped her. She whipped her head to see Magnus in front of the door holding a small book. Alec and Adrian were a safe distance behind him. Taking a closer look she realized he was holding the Book of the White in his hands. It was a powerful spell book Magnus had acquired during the Mortal War. Izzy was thankful he had kept it on him.

Magnus started to chant in Chthonian (the demon language) and the green mist slowly disappeared. She turned her attention back to Simon to find him slowly jerking away. She had to get him out of here.

She took his arm and led him in the direction of a nearby building. A guardian building, Adrian had mentioned. Moving Simon was like moving a heavy rock. Difficult, but not impossible thanks to her greater strength. What also helped was the thinning mist, she didn't notice how much it had slowed them down when initially coming to the door.

They got to the building a few minutes later and Izzy forced herself to not look back until Simon was secure, as tempting as it was. They didn't encountered many ghosts so that must be a good sign...

The windows of the guardian building were dark. Isabelle assumed all the guardians had run off to protect the Moroi. She wished some of them had stuck around to fight. Dhampirs were such cowards.

The building appeared to be of the office variety with an efficient looking lobby surrounded by ominous doors. Izzy pushed Simon into one of the chairs lining the one of the walls. The farther they had gotten from the door the less he had resisted. She wondered if that was because he was away from the door or if Magnus' spell was working.

Isabelle again fought the urge to go check on them. They didn't need her, Simon did. His face was still emotionless, but she thought she could see a bit of life in his eyes. She crouched on one knee in front of him never taking her gaze off him. Maybe if she stared at him long enough he'd come around.

After a few moments she was ready to give up, but then like that he looked back at her.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" he asked.

Isabelle sighed in relief and reached forward to hug him. He was taken aback at first, but ended up hugging her back just as fiercely. Simon had always been the more sensitive one in their relationship and she knew he took advantage of the moments when she softened up.

Isabelle finally let him go and said, "Simon you were about to walk through the door leading to the land of the dead... Tell me that's not something that suddenly slipped your mind..."

Simon's eyes widened in surprise. "I... can't tell you that... The last thing I remember is walking with you guys to the bar..."

"Was Clary and Jace with you?"

"No I thought they went back to guest housing. Are they okay? Izzy what's going on? What did I do?"

"You were possessed... A lot like Jace had been when Lilith was trying to bring Sebastian back." What did it mean? Was Lilith back? Lilith was a Greater Demon that had raised Clary's brother, Sebastian, from the dead through a bond with Jace. To bond them she had possessed Jace, making him have horrible nightmares and eventually kidnap Clary. Luckily Clary had given Simon the Mark of Cain, an old and powerful mark that exceeded Lilith's power. When she'd struck Simon the Mark had cast her back to the depths of the demon realms.
