Baby, just breathe in

Baby, just breathe in

I think you forget how to breathe

the moment you remember

you need to inhale -

You need life more than you know

but time taxes the soul

and you have no money for rent.

So your soul weeds its way

outside of your chest

and strangles your lungs.

Don’t let go, though,

because sometimes its okay

to be more than you are.

And sometimes it’s okay

to vacate yourself entirely

so that something more

can enter your chest cavity.

(Something like love, or hope,

something more than humanity).

Trust your lungs to anchor you

to the liberation of air,

and go ahead and fall.

You’ll forget how to breathe

and you’ll never learn how to fly,

and I promise you the ground

comes sooner than expected

But it’s one hell of a drop.

(and in those moments,

the world is infinite)
