Emperor Tepoc ended up punishing Yzma for her family's misfortune by demoting her to Royal Advisor of the Royal Family for as long as she should live. Yzma tried so many times to kill the Royal family but failed every single time. Nothing was good enough.
When Yzma had turned about 40 with wrinkles covering her face head to toe, a royal child was born to Emperor Tepoc which made her angrier than anything. This child was a healthy baby boy who they named Kuzco.
But when Kuzco was fourteen, and Yzma was 54, the poor unfortunate but once ruthless and fearless, Emperor Tepoc died of a sudden heart attack which led him to his death.
I wonder who caused that..
Yzma wanted to step up and take the throne back to because she thought that Kuzco was took young but she didn't because the kingdom said that Kuzco was old enough, and even Kuzco was happy to take the throne himself. He was reckless and bold, not to mention he had a personality unlike his murderous and bloodthirsty father.
He was someone. And no matter who he was thought, Yzma vowed to kill him and take back what was rightfully hers.
