Isaac POV

I decided to go and see Cassie after school, since I never saw her during our classes. I tried going to the fencing club but it was closed. I tried Stone Gym but she wasn't there, though I did stop by to visit Tyler and spar with Victor and his members of The Dropouts.

Eventually, I visited her house, holding a bunch of red roses. Wrapped around the stem was the pendent I gave to her. I knocked on the door a few times. After a while, the door opened.

"Cassie, I just want to say I'm so-." I began , only to see her older brother.

Andrew "Andy" Castiano. 22 years old and already a junior lieutenant of the police. He's the protégé of  Lieutenant  Roger Raincomprix. Sabrina  Raincomprix's father. He had a muscular build, a faded beard and short black hair. Unlike Cassie, who had diamond blue eyes, he has dark brown eyes.

"Um, hi?" I said nervously.

"I figured you'd come crawling back after you made my sister cry again." He said, glaring at me.

Well shit. I thought to myself.

"Yeah. About that. I-." I was about to say.

"Save it, punk. I don't want you near her again. I prefer her new boyfriend to you." Andy said.

"Boyfriend?" I asked.

"Tall. Peach skinned. Black hair. Blue eyes. Rings any bells?" He replied.

It took me a second to realise what he meant.

August! I thought to myself.

"You have got to be kidding me. Him?" I groaned.

"So far, I trust him. Better than I can trust you." Andy replied with a scowl.

"Can I at least give this to her?" I asked, pointing at the roses and the pendent.

"No. Now get lost before I taser you." Andy growled.

Before I could respond, Andy slammed the door in my face. I sighed and left the door, not before dumping the roses in the bin but keeping the pendent.

Flashback. A day after the confession

"Last night was fun." Cassie said with a grin.

"You could say that." I said.

Cassie and I were sitting underneath a tree in the park after we finished snowball fighting, making snow angels and snowmen.

"I got something for you." I said and pulled out a box from my pocket.

"What is it?" Cassie asked. She opened the box and gasped as she saw a golden heart shaped pendent.

"Oh my God, Zack. It's beautiful." She said as she admired it.

"It was my mother's. My father gave this to her on her 17th birthday. He kept one for himself. Apparently, it's a family heirloom passed down between lovers. I thought that since were dating, I could give this to you." I said.

"I love it, Isaac." Cassie said and hugged me. I smiled and returned the hug. She put the pendent on and smiled.

"Then consider this a promise. That no matter what, we got each other's back." She said.

"I promise." I said.

We kissed.

Present

"I promise." I said and clutched the silver pendent around my neck.

Cassie POV

I looked out of the window and saw Isaac walking away. I felt my heart twinge.

Don't be a fool. He ignored you and is dating Alix. You got August now. I thought.

"You ok, babe?" August asked, hugging me from behind.

I nodded.

"Yeah. I'm ok."

But am I?
