• SUNDAY : 9 A.M. - IN FRONT OF JANET'S HOUSE •
Today is sunday, early in the morning. Most people spend that time of the week in their bed with their loved ones, or they just enjoy a cozy day rolled in their blanket, reading a book or listening to music, having a peacful resting time. Some enjoy their lonely company, and some prefer to simply not be alone, Bucky does.
Not a Sunday goes without him getting to his loved one, Janet. Sunday morning means him and her together, that's what peaceful means to him.
Coming behind Janet who's locking her door, he gently tickles her as his way to greet his friend. He always does this, but it still surprises her as if he doesn't do it every time.
Janet lightly jumps at his gesture before quickly turning to him, she puts her hand on her fluttering heart while he looks at her while smiling at her reaction.
"The face you make every time I do this is gold.", he says, lightly chuckling.
"You mean the face of nearly having a heart attack?"
"Exactly this one, yes."
Bucky laughs again while looking at Janet, she warmy smiles at him and lets him take her into a hug. She gently squeezes him against her, closing her eyes to fully enjoy every second of that hug.
It's not much, but those few seconds are essentials for her, and him. Since those 10 years of knowing each other, those hugs remain their favorite moments because they both know that it's the safest place, for both of them.
Bucky had always taken care of Janet, he's kind of the only family she has ever had: her father died before she was even born, he died the same year he was sent to Europe for the great war.
His death deeply affected her mother and her motherhood. Janet never received the love and care that every other lucky child had since her mother was still mourning, and how was she supposed to learn to love her mother if she didn't learn it from her?
Their relationship was cold and dull, with no affection between them two but Janet still tried to take care of her mother through sickness and all. She also tried to make her trauma about her husband's death go, unsuccessfully.
One time during an argument, her mom said that every time she looked at her, she saw her dad's face. This explained her rage against her daughter, she was just hurt, and how to mourn when you see the face you are supposed to mourn, but can't hold that same person one last time in your arms, just tell that person fairwell?
Janet's mom rage towards her caused her to be even nicer with Bucky than with her, his attempts to make the both of them a real thing were useless. It was even like he was the son of Janet's mom when you see the way that she cared for him and not her, and that, until now.
Hopefully for Janet, she could and can and still can seek love and affection through Bucky's family, it was the second place where she felt safe after his arms.
"How are you doing?"
"Pretty good, how about you?"
"Oh you know, still the same. What are you doing here at 9 instead of sleeping like everybody else?"
Bucky frowns, he looks at Janet with a confused look while gently stepping back from the hug, pastries from the local bakery in his hands.
"What are you doing out at 9 on a Sunday morning? Do our weekly Sunday breakfast ring a bell to you?"
"Oh no, no no no..."
Janet looks at Bucky with an apologetic look, realizing that she forgot about it.
"Don't tell me you forgot..."
"I'm so, so sorry. it's just that I'm crawling under my work and I have this new job and I didn't even realize today was--"
"What? You have a new job and you didn't tell me about it?"
"It happened yesterday, you know I tell you everything Buck', come on..."
Bucky looks at Janet with a disappointed look, letting his smile fade progressively.
Janet looks at him with a sorry smile, all sincere. It only takes a few seconds to make Bucky fall for one of her smile, once again."You're lucky it's you and that I can't have an attitude with that smile"
Janet smiles widely at Bucky's words, looking at him.
"I know, that's my secret weapon"
"Oh, because you do it on purpose?"
"Of course, why would I stop something that works so well?"
They both laugh, Janet then checks at the time before looking back at Bucky.
"I have to go or I'll be late, but as soon as I finish I'll come to you, okay?"
Bucky nods, he knows that Janet is devoted to work and nothing will ever change that.
It's not the fact that she spends all of her time working and not living enough that bothers him, it's the fact that she doesn't spend more time with him. During those 10 years, Bucky has always looked at Janet with those eyes full of love and affection, real love. Ever since he layed his eyes on her, his heart has been filled with nothing else but love, devotion and passion for her.
Unfortunately Janet's eyes don't seem to be returning the same look, that's what he think he knows, and there's nothing he can do for that. If only she could be his, he thinks every time he lovingly gazes at her.
"I'll wait for you, no problem."
"See you later have a good day Buck'."
Janet gives a last smile to Bucky before leaving, she goes towards the SSR base. Bucky looks at her leaving, feeling his heart lightly pinch just as each time she goes further from him. He knows that he shouldn't feel like this, it's not far nor long, it's just a day at work, but it was supposed to be a day with her. With his.
