Janet's point of view.

• 9:20 AM : AT THE SSR BASE •

Sunday, morning. It's only the second day here, but I already feel like I'm being more useful and whole here than in those others labs I've been before. Maybe it's just the feeling of a new environment, but it feels extremely great and refreshing.

"Goodmorning agent Carter."

"Morning, agent West."

Peggy smiles at me before quickly looking back at the table, it is full of plans and maps. Maybe I shouldn't look at it, to be honest. I'm not sure yet if I'm allowed to see that but it seems curiously intricate, too intricate to ignore it.

"What's that?"

Peggy looks up at me while others men in the room are still eyes on the plans as if I was invisible. Good, not a new feeling.

"Just movement strategies, we're planning next assault."

Again, those plans seem terribly complex, but I'm quite sure I could propose a better attack plan.

"If you go west instead of east, you could send a less important squad and run another assault at-"

"And if I needed advice I would have called somebody qualified for this, and I'm pretty sure you're not the one."

I look up at this ire voice shouting at me and Colonel Phillips is looking at me with his same rageful face as if I attacked him. I mean, the only thing I said to him was "nice to meet you", and I regret it.

All those years with my superiors who were just like him learned me how to stay polite and hold my mouth, but my face and its expression isn't something I fully control yet.

"I was just proposing a plan colonel, I didn't mean to--"

"And I'm "just" saying this is not your job, West. Everybody has its role, go make yourself useful at yours."

Of course, because I can't do 2 things at the same time. As I said, I can't control my face and the tension between me and Colonel Phillips is being sensed all over the room. Good thing I cross my eyes with Peggy who's looking with a disapproval look to tell me to stop. She is the only one I'll be listening to because she's the only one listening to me here.

"My apologies, Colonel."

I quickly leave before he has time to answer because I know that his words are going to be merciless once again, and it's not what I need right now.

I go to my workspace and take my stuff out, uncontrollably slamming my things against the table. It's either that or I'll let very, very "nice" words come out of my mouth, and trust me, slamming that table is way softer.

Mr. Stark and Dr. Erskine aren't even there yet, and I can't access the labs without them because I don't have permission yet. Wow, I'm making myself useful right now, great job at leading a group, Phillips. Great directing, really.

I'm still starting to work on the serum the time that they both arrive, it's complex, but I'm not allowed to fail. Minutes seem long and unfinishable, but I know it's still a long time since this serum is ready.
