- Aaron ----
"Looks like we can both help each other out, brother."
Those were the first words I had spoken to Death. Two years after Amenet brought me back to the castle, I was a first hand witness to the cloaked reaper's defeat at the hands of someone I guessed to be his rival.
Since that day, the two of us had started to train with each other, physically, mentally and in every other way we could possibly train ourselves. Almost immediately, I recognised Death's potential, learning that he was an Incarnate, just like me.
"So you can't use your powers? Or your body can't keep up with them?"
I looked up from my thoughts, seeing Death sat on the edge of the castle wall, his legs hanging over the side. I pushed off from the black stone rampart, turning away as I leaned agasint the wall.
"Yeah, I guess its something like that." I thought for a moment, pausing before continuing, "My body isn't complete so that must have something to do with it."
Death nodded slowly, as if thinking about something else. He looked over to me, a half smile on his lips.
"Tomorrow is the day right?"
I knew what he was talking about, nodding in agreement. Tomorrow would be the day that Amenet would help me to escape the Shinigami Realm. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't stay here forever. Heaven was still waiting for me.
"Just make sure you save a seat for me at your table, yeah?"
---
The time had finally come for me to leave the Shinigami Realm and venture out into the neighbouring realms. Amenet and I were walking down a beaten path, barely illuminated by a small orange ball of fire that floated overhead.
"Here we are."
I looked directly ahead, only seeing a sheer pitch black wall. There didn't seem to be anything more to it but I could faintly detect something just beyond my eyesight.
Amenet stepped forward, waving her hand in a large circle. Almost immediately after, the sheer wall crumbled away, a bright white light bursting out from in front.
"You'll be on your own when you get to the other side but if you head northeast, you'll meet a friend. She'll take care of you for sure."
Before I could reply, I was pulled into a tight hug, Amenet pulling me close, "I'm gonna miss you Aaron. Death will too, but he'll join you soon enough."
I returned the embrace, my lips curling into a half smile as I said my goodbyes. Without wasting any more time, I stepped through the mysterious portal.
The afternoon sunlight filled my eyes, almost blinding me. I couldn't even remember the last time I had seen the sun, finding myself staring up in disbelief. After some time, I looked away, the image of the glowing star burned into my eyes.
Eventually, my vision returned and I found myself standing at the basin of a deep valley. Rocky cliff walls surrounded me on all sides but a steep path had been carved into one of the the valley walls. I didn't have any other paths so I headed in that direction, hoping it would lead me northeast.
After some time, I had passed through a lush green forest, passing through as I arrived at a clearing. Just ahead of where I was stood, there was a beautifully made bridge. It arched over a deep gorge, the sound of rushing water coming from the bottom.
