Missing in Action
Chapter Thirty Seven
Liam's P.O.V
Silence filled the room. We were in Louis' apartment waiting for him to come back from Portsmouth.
"What if he's gone back to Doncaster?" Harry asked from where he was perched on the end of the table.
He still hadn't forgiven Louis, but he was still worried about him.
"No, he'll come back here," I told him. "He said that he would," I added to reassure everyone.
We fell into silence again. I began to pace the length of the room. He had to come back at some point.
Niall got up suddenly and walked over to one of Louis' shelves. He took one of the picture frames off it and stared at it for a while.
"He must miss her a lot," he said as he put the picture back on the shelf.
I hadn't seen the picture before. It was a picture of Louis and a girl with a bright smile on face. She was holding a medal.
"How long has that been there?" I asked.
"It was in Cassidy's stuff," Niall replied.
I nodded.
Niall had told us that Louis had unpacked her stuff. He said that it was mainly photos, sketch pads, her uniforms and four notebooks that Louis hadn't opened.
"Maybe we should call him," Zayn said.
"No, he might be driving," I said.
They all nodded.
I knew that this was hard for all of us. We didn't know Cassidy, but we knew Louis and seeing how much he missed her was enough to drive us all crazy.
I wanted him to be okay, but I knew that he wouldn't be as long as Cassidy was missing.
"He had a nightmare on Friday," Harry blurted out.
We all looked at him.
"He was yelling in his sleep. He kept saying her name and that she couldn't leave him because she promised," Harry said.
"Promised what?" I asked.
"I don't know, but it has to be important," Harry replied.
I was thrown into thought. What could she have promised him that mattered so much? How could one promise matter so much to Louis?
"She must be important," Zayn said.
"She is".
We turned around and Louis stood in the doorway through to the door to his apartment. His shoulders were slumped and his eyes were ringed with red. His normally shining eyes were dull and grey.
"I knew you'd all be here," he said.
More than anything, Louis looked drained. He wasn't the cheerful smiling Louis that we all loved, he was more distant.
"Sorry about that, we were just worried about you," I told him.
Louis just shrugged and walked slowly into his kitchen.
I heard him open a bread packet and he put two slices into the toaster. He didn't say anything for a while, and I guessed that no one wanted to ask him, so we stayed silent.
We could only hear the faint noises of traffic outside the windows and the London lights added a soft orange glow to the room.
Eventually, I walked into the kitchen and leaned against the counter.
