Missing in Action
Chapter Eight
Cassidy's P.O.V
I groaned as the alarm sounded. I had fallen asleep reading a non-fiction book called Reach for the Sky which was the story of one of the dam buster pilots during World War 2.
I rolled out of bed. The book fell to the floor, luckily it fell closed with a book mark in it. My bed covers had been warm, but the air in my room was freezing. I could tell that it was either late at night, or within the early hours of the morning.
I put on my gear and grabbed my helmet. Despite my late start, I was still the first one out. The boys were still likely to be asleep.
"Boys!" I yelled banging a metal tube that the captain had given us to wake each other up with against the door. "Alarm bells are ringing! Get up!"
I heard what sounded like "okay!" from James. He could get the rest of the lads up, I had places to be.
I sprinted up the stairs, trying desperately to make up for lost time. I took the stairs two at a time leaving a trail of stunned crew members behind me as I rushed past.
I got to the flight deck within seconds. I took the step up to my plane two at a time whilst I secured my helmet to my head.
I didn't turn my engine on straight away because the boys hadn't emerged yet.
"Come on boys, get out here," I hissed to myself.
The flight crew looked baffled. The alarm was still blaring, and it would have surely annoyed half of the crew by now.
I gestured for one of the flight crew to radio the operator since I was unable to unless I started my engine up which would waste fuel whilst I waited.
After ten minutes of waiting, the boys finally appeared. I shook my head at them and James flashed me an apologetic smile.
I started up my engine and was ready to take off before Henry had even managed to get to the bottom of the steps up to his plane.
"Operator, this is Falcon Two ready for take off," I said.
"Falcon Two you are clear for take off," the operator said.
I taxied down the runway and executed a perfect take off.
The view was lovely, but I hadn't realised how long I had actually slept for. It wasn't late at night, or early in the morning, it was the evening meaning that I had slept for almost twenty hours. The sun was just beginning to desend closer to the horizon.
"This is Falcon Two to all Falcons; what took you guys so long?" I asked.
"Falcon Two, this is Falcon One, how long have you been waiting?" James asked.
To tell the truth I didn't know. How long had I been waiting? I know that I had had a late start, but I didn't know how long it had taken them to get to the flight deck after me.
"About fifteen minutes Falcon One," I replied.
"Whoops," I heard Ben say as Henry got ready to take off.
After another five minutes we were all safely up in the air and in formation.
"Falcon One, we are so dead later," I said.
"Falcon Two, that's a negative. You won't be," James replied.
I sighed. We always seemed to be in trouble now, and I just wanted it to stop. I always felt like it was my responsibility to ensure that we did well. We had been threatened with being put in different teams before.
