Missing in Action
Chapter Seven
Louis' P.O.V
I sighed as I opened my emails on the laptop that we had taken on tour with us. We were all going home in three days, but my mum insisted on emailing me about wedding plans. There were at least seven that I had had in the past twenty four hours, but there was also one that I hadn't expected. There was an email from Cassidy.
I opened it straight away. It was quite short, but her emails never really were that long.
Hi Louis,
I just thought I'd let you know that I'm okay. We had a shipment of new planes, but it'll take a while to get used to them. I still don't know if I'll be able to get to the wedding because we've had a new set of orders that could take more than a month.
If I don't, I've attached a video for your mum. Tell her I said congratulations.
I hope your tour went well,
Cassidy xx
Liam came up into the kitchen area where I was perched on a stool.
"Are you going through more emails from your mum?" he asked filling the kettle up and then putting it on it's stand to boil the water.
"Nope, a wedding email from Cassidy actually," I replied.
He read the email of my shoulder. After a while, he shook his head.
"Good luck breaking that news to your mum," he said.
"I just wish Cassidy would come home for once," I sighed.
"What do you mean?" Liam asked.
"I'm not sure that it is my story to tell," I said.
"But it upsets you," he said.
"She hasn't gone back to Doncaster for two years. The last time she was there was for her dad's funeral. She has lived in Portsmouth since then," I said after sighing and giving in.
Liam handed me a cup full of steaming tea and sat down next to me.
"Why?" Liam asked after he had sat down.
"Her mum told her that she never wanted her to step inside the house again. I don't think Jane- that's Cassidy's mum- likes uniforms," I told him.
"Well I can see why she hasn't gone back," he said.
"But she's running from her problems," I sighed before I continued. "Her dad was the only one who had faith in her when she decided to join the navy," I said.
"Have you talked to her about it?" he asked.
"Of course I have Liam!" I exclaimed. "Her mum said she never wanted to see Cassidy again if she put that uniform on!"
I sighed and tried to calm down. Cassidy had always seemed invincible to me. She had never seemed to need anybody else, but that changed when her dad died. She had needed me more thn ever and I had been on the other side of the planet.
"Your mum talks about her a lot," Liam said quietly.
"Who?" I asked.
"Cassidy. I never knew who your mum was talking about until you said her name," Liam replied.
My mum treated Cassidy like she was one of my sisters. My mum was great friends with Cassidy's mum as well.
"She always thought Cassidy was so brave for joining the Navy, but she didn't want her to go either," I said.
"Your family must love her," he said.
"It's hard not to love Cassidy," I said more to myself than to Liam.
We sat in silence for a while. I think Liam understood more than anyone that I had been having a bad time with management since I had met up with her. They were still trying to find out who she is, but they were having little success.
Well good luck trying to find someone who doesn't exist.
It's amazing how one person can disappear entirely when they don't want to be found. Someday, it was going to save Cassidy's life.
"I think Stacey is stressed about the whole thing," Liam stated.
"Of course she is Liam, she can't find the mystery girl," I said quoting what Harry had called Cassidy.
I think Cassidy had helped slightly. She had a spotless school record, had never been in trouble with the police, had amazingly good grades from the end of high school and had a knack for getting out of any trouble she was involved in which had always been the complete opposite for me.
"Still, Stacey never really has been that bright," Liam said and we laughed.
"What's so funny?" Niall asked as he entered the part of the tour bus where me and Liam were sat.
"Stacey's lack of an IQ," Liam replied.
Niall sat down on the other side of Liam with a can of pepsi from the small fridge. He had been asleep for the past hour so his hair was messed up quite a lot.
I looked to the back of the bus where the road was receding as we powered along the motorway. Life went by so quickly, but sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy the moment.
Here, it didn't matter how much I hated our management, or how much I missed Cassidy, this was my moment.
All I had to do was see it.

Cassidy's P.O.V
"Home? We're going home early?" I asked again in disbelief.
James nodded again. He looked tired and you could clearly see the large purple bags under his eyes. He looked as tired as I felt. We were all tired.
We were all sat in various places in James' bomb site of a room because none of us could believed that we were being sent home on time. I was perched on the end of his desk where I had moved six dirty coffee cups and a few report files.
"We just have one more mission to complete," James said running his hand through his hair.
"I thought we were going home after the last mission," Henry stated.
James sighed and ran his hand through his short hair. "I thought we were too," he said quietly.
We all wanted to go home. We hadn't had more than a day of or a week on R and R for what felt like years.
We all lived in North England, which would take at least five hours to get there. It was too long a journey to make if we had to be up by six the next morning.
Home! I started to smile like an idiot. I was going home, and I was going to be home for Jay's wedding.
Despite myself, and the next set of orders, I smiled like I was never going to stop. I felt like nothing could put a dent in my happiness.
"We're going home!" Henry said, smiling as well.
James nodded again, and soon after we were all smiling.
We celebrated going home way into the night in the eating area with the rest of the crew.
We were going home at last!
