Chapter Thirteen

Cassidy's P.O.V

I was always nervous when we were called to the Captain's office, but this? This was different.

We had entered the the room and saluted the captain under a gaze that could freeze all of the water on the globe.

The captain wasn't sitting down either. He was standing in front of his desk with nothing but rage in his eyes.

We all stood in a line in front of him with James in the middle, Henry and I at either side and Peter and Ben on the ends.

Captain Johnson's gaze swept over us all.

"What you did was stupid, and I just hope that you have learnt a valuable lesson Lieutenant Oak. I don't even know why any of you bothered to even suggest it! In fact, the only person who was right was Lieutenant Davis, but we'll get to why she is in here in a minute," the captain was calm when he said it, but every line felt like a slap in the face. The was not a reprimand, this was humiliation.

He gaze swept over us again, but we all remained silent. He should know by now that we fall together or not at all.

He pushed off of his desk and began to walk in front of us.

Next to me, James' hand turned into a fist. I terrified me to see him so angry.

"I'll kill him," that was what James had said when his left earlier, and I had the feeling that he had meant it. The words had reached my brain, but I hadn't heard them.

Captain Johnson leant against his desk. He looked at James' fists and smiled faintly.

Hit me, his expression said, hit me and I'll make your life hell.

I thought James was going to hit him as well. However, he didn't.

"Did you know that that storm was coming sir?" he asked through gritted teeth.

The fact that he was standing up to Captain Johnson for me made the letter in my pocket burn a hole in my leg.

"The mission was more important," the captain stated.

"More important than our safety sir?" I asked.

"How are you Lieutenant Davis?" he asked in answer.

My hands balled into fists, but I put my hands behind my back before he could see them.

"I'm better sir," I said.

All of my bruises had disappeared almost overnight and I didn't have any scars. Nobody would think that I had been in a plane crash if they looked at me.

"Well enough to hit one of my most valued officers Lieutenant Davis?" he sneered.

Captain Johnson had ordered that Private Henson was to be taken out of the brig as soon as he had found out. It was then that he had chosen the wrong side. His crew against the four officers that always sided with him.

I didn't trust myself to answer.

"Sir why are we here? You've had your fun, and we accept that what we all did and the way that we acted was wrong. Hell we'll even accept kitchen duty!" Henry stated.

Henry knew that either me or James was about to snap. He knew that one more sentence could push us over the edge into a void of rage.

"Lieutenant Purcell, I was talking to Lieutenant Davis and not you," the captain replied without taking his eyes off me.
