Chapter Thirty

Cassidy's P.O.V

He stared at me. He hadn't said anything since he had walked in. He looked angry, but I couldn't see him that well because my left eye had been forced close by swelling.

Most of my body hurt from the beating that I received when I didn't give them the information they wanted.

"Are you just going to stand there?" I asked.

He blinked.

"If you are, can you find somewhere else to stand?" I said.

I moved my arm and tried not to groan from the pain.

He blinked again.

The dirt on the floor shifted as a warm breeze slipped into the room. It was getting warmer at night as we headed towards the height of summer.

"Maybe you should keep your mouth shut Lieutenant," he said.

I watched him for a moment. He had seemed to be more polite now. There again, I think that I might just be getting used to it.

"I feel at a disadvantage. You know a lot about me, but I know nothing about you," I said.

"All I know is your rank and that you are a pilot in the Falcon Squadron," he said.

I tutted.

Taunting them had become my entertainment. There was nothing better to do.

"Why should I tell you anything anyway? That would just give you the chance to rat us out to Naval Intelligence," he said.

"I'm not going anywhere anytime soon," I countered.

He smiled.

I watched him again. He was British. He moved with the grace that you only see in people that have served in the military. I knew because it was the way I had aways walked, but he wasn't Navy. He did not bear the scars of the sea. The sea is part of a sailor's eyes, but it wasn't in his. He wasn't in the Air Force either because he didn't look longingly at the sky like they did. That left only one option.

"What do you want to know?" he asked.

"I want to know how a member of the army ended up betraying his country," I stated.

He smiled again and nodded.

"Very perceptive of you. How did you guess?" he asked.

"You're the one that's worried about me going to Naval Intelligence, did you ever consider that I am part of Navy Intelligence?" I said.

"It wasn't on the records we managed to hack that talk about your squadron," he said.

They always thought they had the advantage. I only gave them the information that I knew I could stack against them.

"Do you really think that we would be stupid enough to put that on our records?" I countered.

He looked thoughtful for a moment.

"The army put it on our records," he muttered.

"The Royal Navy isn't the Army," I said politely.

"No, I don't suppose it is," he muttered.

I toyed with the ropes that bound my hands together. They were getting loser everyday. I was itching to get out of here. A few more tugs and they'd be off.

"Why do you refuse to give us the answers to our questions?" he asked thoughtfully.

"You would use that information to kill people. I have friends in London and I have friends in the military. I will not give you your answers even if that means that I have to die," I told him.
