Chapter Twenty Nine

Louis' P.O.V

I stared out at the London lights. This must have been the first time that I had ever stayed up here for more than five minutes, but it was quiet, and there were no eyes full of pity up here.

I leaned into the wind. It seemed to circle me and whisper words that I couldn't understand.

Even though is was late, cars still rushed by. People strolled down the streets. Planes flew overhead. They never noticed what they passed by. In the city that never slept, it was hard to not miss anything.

The wind seemed to blow back around now, in the direction it had come from. In the direction of Cassidy.

"Come back to me," I whispered to it.

I let it carry the message to her over the land and sea.

I wanted to be anywhere but here. I wanted to be able to do something. She was out there, she had to be.

I promise. I promise that I'll come home alive.

Every time I thought about that day, I let the tears fall. She never broke her promises, but that promise made out in the pouring rain was hanging in the balance.

I didn't know what I would do if she died. I would lose the person that I treasured the most.

My phone rang beside me. I didn't answer it. In total, there were 54 missed calls on my phone from the boys alone.

"I thought you'd be up here," Zayn said.

He was holding his phone in the air so the screen was facing me. My number was displayed on the screen.

"Go away Zayn," I said tiredly.

He gave me a lazy smile.

"I don't think you should be on your own right now," he said.

"Go away Zayn," I repeated.

He didn't move from where he stood.

"I find that it helps to talk about it," Zayn said.

"I have nothing left to say," I told him.

"Really?" he asked.

I turned to look at him. I had never been good at reading people. I couldn't tell when someone was sad or stressed. That was one of Cassidy's talents.

I didn't know why he had bothered to come up here. I had said a lot of things that he should feel hurt by.

"Why are you here Zayn?" I asked.

He sighed. Zayn was good at not being affected by things that could hurt him.

"Because you shouldn't be alone at a time like this Louis," he said.

"You sound just like Cassidy," I told him.

"She wouldn't want you to be alone right now," Zayn said.

He was right. Cassidy never left me alone if she thought something was wrong, and she always stayed by my side even if I had told her to go away. She would sit by me until I told her what had happened.

Zayn sat down on the very end of the bench. He looked ready to spring away for me. He was ready to flee if I snapped.

"Why did you come up here Louis?" he asked nervously.

I sighed.

"Cassidy's stuff came," I replied.

The boxes had been waiting for me when I had stormed back into the apartment block earlier.
