Fall for the High

Reina was home alone on a Friday night, which was boring but Baltimore had work and Veronica, Veronica just hadn't been around lately. Sometimes Reina would visit Baltimore at work, hanging around the bar while he worked. But it got boring by herself and she hated when other guys came up to her. So she laid in bed, mindlessly switching through all the apps back and forth until she tired herself out.

Veronica walked into their room and froze when she saw Reina in bed. They both looked at each other in surprise. Reina sat up.

"Are you staying here tonight?"

Veronica shook her head, "I'm actually going to a party, I just swung by to grab a baggie."

"You going with Ashley?" Reina asked lightly. Veronica stiffened.

"No," she replied carefully, as if Ashley was a sensitive subject. She shouldn't be. Veronica didn't need to hide Ashley like something precious to protect. "Ashley's like you, she doesn't do hard drugs, doesn't like parties that have them."

Reina hadn't been in their room with Veronica in a month. She was a little annoyed Veronica only came back for coke. She was more annoyed that Veronica compared her to Ashley.

"I don't dislike hard drugs, I just never feel the need to do them." She shifted onto her knees and moved closer to the edge of her bed. "We can do a line right now."

Veronica looked at her incredulously, "you want to snort coke? Right now?"

Reina gave a petulant pout. "It's best to try substances for the first time in a controlled environment with someone you trust right?"

Veronica frowned but Reina knew she wasn't going to say no. Veronica rarely said no to her.

Thin, white lines were methodically put together on the edge of the bedside table with a card.

"Watch me first."

Veronica held down one nostril and the line disappeared under her nose. She tilted her head back and inhaled, then she passed the card to Reina. Reina copied her movements.

It didn't take long for it to hit.

"Holy fuck," Reina breathed out. Veronica laughed. She was beaming at her and Reina was reminded how much she missed her best friend.

"No wonder you do this so much."

Veronica laid down on Reina's bed.

"I don't do it so much, just when I want a real high, when I wanna feel life."

Reina understood what she meant. Everything felt elevated in this moment, her heart was pistoning in a way that made her feel invincible, like she could run miles nonstop. It made her brave.

Reina slid her hand between Veronica's thighs and she tensed.

"We haven't done this in a while," she purred into Veronica's ear. Veronica inhaled sharply and it fueled Reina to go further. Her other hand began to slide up Veronica's stomach.

Veronica caught Reina's hand before it reached her chest.

"I-I don't think we should—"

Reina pulled back, upset at being denied.

"Do you not want to do this anymore? Because I asked you if you wanted to stop and you never gave me an answer. Is this because of Ashley? What, are you monogamous now?"

Veronica jerked away. She closed her eyes and let a long exhale through her nose. Reina could tell she was trying to hold back her frustration. She liked that Veronica was getting frustrated. She wanted Veronica's fire. She was tired of feeling empty and lonely when Veronica didn't pay attention to her.

Reina decided to keep pushing. She moved to pillow her cheek against Veronica's thigh, laying on her side, batted her eyelashes up at her and paired it with another pout.

"Do you not want me anymore?" she whispered, staring right into Veronica's eyes, so dark they were almost black.

A hand comes to grip Reina's hair almost instinctively. Reina's lips began to curl, knowing she was about to win.

However, she didn't expect the small, barely audible confession that left Veronica's lips while her eyes were closed.

"I always want you."

It was a secret that shouldn't have reach either of their ears. Reina inhaled sharply.

"Kiss me like you mean it then," she demanded, firm. The hand in her hair dragged her up to meet Veronica's lips and when they met Reina exhaled in relief. She could feel Veronica's heart hammering in her chest. She could feel every pulse point.

She won. Veronica was still hers. Their kisses were still the same, Veronica's touch was still the same. Nothing had changed.

Clothes were ripped off of bodies, blankets were kicked off the bed. Veronica panted against Reina's face as they touched each other. Reina kept a possessive grip on her. She wanted to leave marks. She knew rationally that she was being a hypocrite. Reina was the one who insisted that there were no marks on her, and Veronica said it was only fair then that there were no marks on her. She was right, but in that moment Reina wanted to imprint her fingerprints into Veronica's skin so that any girl after her would know she wasn't special.

Reina moved to kiss down Veronica's neck, then her chest, then down her stomach, her thighs. She looked up and Veronica's eyes were wild, pupils blown wide. Reina had never been in this position before, never knew how Veronica looked at this angle when she was overcome with surprise and desire.

Reina kept her nails long, never wanted them short, never needed them to be, so there were some things she couldn't try. But some things she could. She didn't even feel self-conscious about her inexperience because she knew Veronica would enjoy it, enjoy Reina, no matter what.

The gasps that left Veronica's mouth were addicting, empowering, better than any high drugs could give. Both of them were so sensitive, every touch was amplified.

Reina bit into the soft flesh of Veronica's thigh and she cried out . "We should always have sex high," Reina mumbled into skin.

"That," Veronica tried to catch her breath, "that'd be regressive don't you think? We used to only have sex high."

"Drunk," Reina corrected, "that was different. This is different."

They were different, Reina could feel a shift between her and Veronica, could feel Veronica pulling away and it scared her. Veronica was her best friend, her only real friend, had been with Reina her whole life, and she didn't want her to leave. Reina only had one thing she could count on in her life, as sure as the sun rising in the east each morning, and that was Veronica's presence.

Reina focused back on the task before her, wanting to drag more gasps and moans out of Veronica. Reina was usually loud in bed. Something Baltimore would tease her about while Veronica would sometimes gag her so their neighbors wouldn't hear. But Veronica wasn't like Reina. Each sound pulled out of her was hard earned.

"Reina, trouble," Veronica whined, which spurred Reina on. Veronica had never said her name like that before, breathy, desperate, full of want. She wanted to hear it again. A dark, possessive feeling curled through Reina, something she had never felt before.

They went through multiple rounds, multiple positions. Veronica paid Reina back in full for her efforts, bringing Reina to tears, having to beg her to stop. The drug high had already left their system, but electricity still ran between them. They were high off of each other.

They finished chests heaving, hands intertwined between on the soaked bed.

Veronica groaned, "Guess I'm not going to that party." Reina knew that was a complaint, but it made her heart jump to know that Veronica chose her. She turned over to nestle into Veronica's side. The high was already falling off, leaving Reina boneless.

"Stay," it was a demand disguised as a soft plea.

Veronica stayed. Reina thrilled in the confirmation she would get anything she asked for. She could have all of Veronica. Veronica would never deny her.
