Kaimana Valencia | January 1996
Kaimana stared down at the dead body.
She blinked a few times, running her tongue across her top row of teeth.
Well, Franco was dead. What a great start to the New Year.
"Brilliant," Kaimana said out loud, and nodded repeatedly.
She stuck her toe in Franco's rib, poking at his body.
It just wiggled lifelessly.
She sighed heavily, wiping an exhausted hand over her face. She had to make conversation with this odious man for almost three hours before he just fell to the floor.
Then she had sat in her chair, seeing foam dribbling down the corner of his mouth the way drool dribbled down Zaiyah's mouth this morning when Quinn had given her whipped cream.
Now, Kaimana annoyedly grabbed Franco by his underarms and dragged him across the floor to the side door.
She was in no fucking mood to be doing this.
She had forgotten how exhausting it was.
Kaimana was in nothing but pajama pants and a large sweatshirt and slippers and socks. But she didn't have time to bundle herself up in her winter gear.
So she sucked it up and opened the side door. It was dark out due to the winter season and the whole thing about the sun going down earlier.
She held Franco by his underarms and dragged him outside. She looked over her shoulder to watch her steps as she walked backwards down the stairs of the side door.
She was pretty grateful it was dark and her house was located in the middle of a forest.
She was unfazed by every thump Franco's heavy body made as she dragged it down all five steps of the side door porch. It was an old wooden porch, so she was hoping it wouldn't break.
When she finally got to the bottom of the steps, she dropped his body, out of breath and freezing. Her breaths clouded in front of her mouth as she rushed up the stairs, trying to keep quiet. She shut the door and prayed that Quinn would keep Zaiyah, wherever they were hidden.
She was actually grateful that Zaiyah hadn't cried at all within the hours Franco was alive.
Kaimana took a deep breath, ignoring the cold, and walked back down the steps.
Franco's fucking body being dragged had ruined the blanket of freshly fallen snow on the back door porch. She would take care of that soon.
She slid her hands under his arms and began to drag him some more. He was heavier than he looked. Well, he looked pretty strong and bulky, so it figured. Her hands were freezing, already feeling numb. She was feeling numb with her toes too since she was wearing socks and slippers.
But again, she had no time.
She quickly dragged her stepbrother's dead body around and to the back of the cottage house. She dragged and dragged. She was straining as she pulled Franco's body, and with every passing moment, it got more difficult to drag.
The freezing weather was seeping quickly into her skin and bones, causing her entire body to feel frozen and numb. But she pushed through, groaning and grunting as she dragged the body all the way to the pond. It was dark, but she was still able to make out her surroundings.
And still, it was snowing, just as it was all holiday.
Kaimana dropped Franco flat onto the floor once she reached the pond behind her house. She left his body there and went to the shed, where she pulled out a shovel.
