Kaimana Valencia | May 1997

"Harry isn't even at Hogwarts anymore," Quinn said quietly, tiredly. "I can't ask him if he isn't here. Hermione and Ron are gone too."

"We'll figure it out," Kaimana assured, and ran her finger across the words of the textbook she was reading. "Draco says he's going to let me know if he sees something that could help us. We'll figure it out. We don't need Potter."

Kaimana was with her mates in the library, sitting on the floor in an aisle. They were doing some research about things that could possibly help them figure out how to kill Voldemort.

They first researched how a Witch or Wizard could be brought back to life, which was only with dark magic—they figured that out already. But they just needed to figure out how Voldemort used dark magic to come back to life because if they figured that out, it'd be easier to figure out how to kill him.

"We've looked through all the Dark Magic books there are." Aisling blew out a weary sigh, knocking her head back against the shelf. "Are we even sure all Dark Magic spells are in this library?"

Kaimana thought for a moment, and then the internal lightbulb flickered. "Quinn, come with me." She closed the book on her lap and slid it to the floor. She stood up and slung her bag over her shoulder.

"Brilliant. Where are we going?" Quinn stood up, brushing off the back of his trousers. He hunched down and grabbed his bag.

"Lupin's," she answered, and fixed her skirt. "You guys keep looking through the books. Read between the lines. Outside the box. Got it?" Her serious eyes darted between Aisling, Elijah, and Meleah.

"Yes, ma'am," the three said in unison.

Kaimana strode out of the aisle, Quinn trailing behind. She left the library and since it was after classes, she knew Lupin would be in his office. She made her way around the castle to his office. She raised her fist and knocked.

"Come in."

She opened the door and slipped inside, Quinn following in suit. He shut the door behind him before they both made their way to Lupin's desk.

"Ah." He set down his pen and looped his fingers over his paperwork. "Miss Valencia. Mister Reid. To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Professor, the stuff you teach us in class is a way of defending ourselves against dark magic, correct?" Kaimana needed to confirm.

"Correct." Lupin gave a nod. "Go on and sit, both of you. I've got a feeling this won't be so brief."

Kaimana and Quinn both took the armchairs in front of Lupin's desk. Quinn put his bag on the floor by his feet and Kaimana put hers next to her on the chair.

"I apologize for bothering you, but I just need to ask you some questions." Kaimana shot him an apologetic look.

Lupin smiled warmly. "That's what I'm here for." He sniffed and cleared his throat, leaning forward. "So go on. Ask away."

"Your office is silenced, right?" Kaimana shifted in her seat nervously.

He flicked his wand. "Now it is."

"Great." She nodded and folded her hands on her lap. "I have questions about dark magic that could bring someone back to life."

Lupin must have caught on because he tipped his head back in an ah motion. "You're talking about Voldemort, yes?" His brows rose.

She nodded.

Quinn just sat there and listened, leaning comfortable back in the armchair. He didn't really need to be there, but Kaimana didn't like going to many places herself, so she tended to bring her mates along. She used to bring Zaiyah with her everywhere as company, but she was unfortunately out of the question.
