Kaimana Valencia | February 1996
Kaimana blinked slowly at a beaten Draco, who was being escorted to one of the cots by Theodore and Blaise.
Draco had an eye that was swelling underneath with a light purple-ish and pink-ish hue, an arm that was bent unnaturally, and blood pouring from his nose and a cut from his bottom lip.
But he wasn't crying. He was just groaning and wincing in what she could guess was pain.
"Assist Malfoy, Kaimana." Pomfrey appeared next to Kaimana behind the desk, holding out a clipboard for her.
"But—"
"Go on." Pomfrey put the clipboard in Kaimana's hands and deliberately nudged her out from behind the desk.
Stubbornly, Kaimana stood where she was for a second or two before walking to the platinum-haired boy.
She stared at him with a dubious expression, standing at the end of his cot.
Just stared, not even blinking.
Theodore and Blaise had gone, leaving the two of them.
Draco looked kind of triumphant when she looked past his injuries.
"I'm injured." Draco was the first to break the silence. "You're supposed to assist me. I thought you've been doing this for a while."
"You're watching me?"
"I observe you."
She stared at him again, the clipboard lazily gripped between her fingers as her hand fell to her side.
He knocked his head back as a groan elicited from his lips. "Fucking hell, Clover, I've got a broken arm." He winced at his own movements.
"And how is that my problem?" Kaimana's voice drew out like ice.
"Maybe try being less hostile," Pomfrey whispered discreetly as she walked past Kaimana, her shoulder brushing the girl's back. Pomfrey walked out of the Wing to grab something, leaving the two.
Kaimana swallowed the lump in her throat and ignored the twisty feeling in her gut. She was just helping out a patient, like she did with everyone else, she reminded herself.
She asked Draco questions about the pain and the usual stuff she would ask the patients.
He responded docilely, and she noticed his eyes never left her.
She scribbled on the clipboard with a quill, and then walked off to grab serums, and a wrap and sling for his arm.
She went rigid when she realized she had to touch him to help him.
But then stubbornly, she said, "Put this on," and tossed him the sling.
"I've still got blood dripping from my nose, Clover." Draco rolled his eyes, obviously fed up with her. "It'd be nice if you actually took my injuries seriously. You haven't even done anything except ask me questions."
Kaimana exhaled heavily and stepped away to grab a cloth and water. She forced herself to sit on the edge of his cot, next to him.
She forced herself to cup his face gently and wipe the blood from under his nose and where the blood dripped. She forced herself to clean the blood on his lip, her hand now cupping his jaw.
Then she noticed the swelling under his eyes was getting worse. She forced herself to touch it, feeling it and it throbbed under her finger.
Truth be told, Kaimana had no clue what she was doing at that moment.
