Reza--
I didn't expect to be caught so easily by the brat on the grounds let alone the prince himself. By the best luck imaginable I didn't get arrested or killed thus far but this will only serve to make things harder, I'm sure. I wasn't able to actually kill Izana like I'd anticipated due to the uproar I caused with the guards. I'd hate to try to kill him and either be caught in the process or have my hard work and poison go to waste when they save him. It's just a lowgrade poison I keep on me in case I need to take myself out relatively quickly. I don't bother to use it on targets since I typically have to decapitate them. With Izana, the client who ordered the hit said not to as his death would be so publicized they wouldn't need the head as proof. The death would speak for itself. While I'm gone, I might stop by the herbalist shop in the compound and see what types of poisons they have in stock. Perhaps I can pick up a few good ones to keep in my stuff.
The grounds are clear as I reach the balcony along with the area I need to escape, so I jump from the side of the rail into the tree a few feet off. As my feet make contact on a sturdy limb, I find myself face to face with the one I'd attacked on my way in.
"Move Child, you're in my way."
I smirk slightly as I note the extensive bruising across the bridge of his nose. I broke some things when I slammed his head into my knee. That's what he gets for getting in my way though.
"You're not going anywhere, Reaper."
This boy is becoming more of a nuisance than I had anticipated. The job was supposed to be very simple, but this parasite and the prince both have made it such a headache. I need to return and regroup before I try again.I have underestimated Wistal Castle it seems. I won't make that mistake again. I move to pass him but he draws a dagger and crosses in front of me. I roll my eyes and sigh as I block his attacks with ease, but I'm not quite able to get enough of an advantage to retaliate properly. The patrol watch will be shifting soon and I don't have time to deal with this. I let out a very short, shrill whistle as I duck his fist and sweep his feet. A needle whizzes through the air from behind me, passing by my hair before sinking into the man's neck, dropping him instantly. He won't die yet, but he'll get a nice nap.
Roman is waiting for me on the far side of the castle wall with a smug smirk on his face. He helps on jobs that I bring him on, naturally, but I've only ever had to call on him actively for help twice before. It amuses him to no end that I am not the all-powerful Reaper that the Mitzko family believes me to be. I meet his smirk with a harsh glare and drag him along by his shirt sleeve.
"What happened back there? Who was that?"
"I underestimated Wistal Castle, that is all. That was some gremlin they have in their employ. He doesn't seem a typical lackey though... We are going to fall back and regroup."
"This is the first job that you haven't finished on the first run." He reminds me and I roll my eyes.
"I have two more days to get this done, it'll be easy. I just had to get an idea of what I'm up against."
"If you'd been spotted, they're going to ramp up guard detail surrounding the castle and the prince especially. How will we get around that?"
"Very carefully, now stop being so negative, it's unattractive. Wouldn't want to disappoint your league of imaginary women throwing themselves at your feet, eh?"
"You're the only woman I want at my-"
"Don't finish that." I groan. "I'm not in the mood for your perverse flattery."
I curl up into a chair at my kitchen table with a large bottle of rum and a stack of papers. Some of them are files on Prince Izana Wistaria and the rest are blank for my notes. Roman is pacing between the stove and the table, offering me bits of advice and his usual flirtations while preparing food for us. I run a hand through my hair as I grab a blank page and start to sketch out the castle, grounds, and the placements of some of their guard. I have to maneuver around them and that annoying little brat who got in my way and still get to Izana. I'm sure that killing him once I'm there won't be too hard, considering his words earlier tonight, but I still have to get to him and get back out safely.
"What's the game plan, Reez?"
"Take out the wild card, run a protective detail around me, then I finish the job." I shrug as I pick at the plate he placed beside me. "Are you up for the task, oh-great-protector?"
"I am up for anything involving you, Love."
"You always complain about not finding anyone to be with and a lack of dates, yet you faun over me like you're a lovesick puppy. You complain that I am alone as well yet you consistently drove away any man that came near me."
"What better person to be intimate with than your closest, most trusted, advisor?"
Roman leans down within my range, so without looking I reach over and grab his face and push him backward.
"I think I'll survive, Roman. Calm your hormones. Perhaps if I fail my job and get killed you'll be able to go live out your wildest fantasies."
"What are fantasies worth if your Mistress is dead?"
"I hate you." I sigh.
